Chance me for Cornell!

Hi, I’m a senior applying ED for Cornell’s College of Human Ecology. Please chance me! :)

• County does not rank, but I took the most rigorous course load I could
• Have taken 5 AP classes so far and will take 5 more in my senior year, scored all 5s and 4s except for a 3 in Bio, but I’ll take the SAT subject test for Molecular Bio to hopefully make up for that
• I’m taking the ACT in September and will most likely score higher than my SAT, but I took the SAT once and got 2150 total- CR: 660, Math: 740, Writing: 750, 1400 CR+Math
• SAT II in Math 2: 790
• Will take SAT II in Molecular Bio and Chinese

Thanks!

Good stats, but your ECs and honors don’t exactly scream “human ecology.” I’d say low reach maybe. Work on the GPA first semester or apply early decision to increase your chances :)

Low reach. You’re a highly competitive applicant :)

Haha I thought HumEc was the closest match to what I do currently and want to do in the future. I’m a really global and community-centered person, and want to go into health sciences. And yeah, my GPA needs work haha. I also don’t think I’m well-rounded…but at this point I’ve just got to work with what I have.

Bump? (I think that’s what you do lol)

I would say Cornell is a reach for you. Your GPA and SAT scores are on the lower end for admitted Cornell applicants, although applying ED will help. Since your AP Bio score was only decent (and you’re applying in a bio-related field), doing well on the SATII Bio will be important. Your honors and ECs are strong, although perhaps a few more leadership positions would boost your application even more. I feel like your ECs are pretty geared towards bio/ecology which is great. All in all, with some great essays and an improvement in your SAT or ACT scores, your chances will be as a good as any other qualified applicant.

Yeah since I can’t do anything about my GPA for ED, I’m focusing on getting my ACT up there and doing well on my SAT IIs. Thanks for the input! Anyone else have thoughts? :)

I would say Cornell would be a reach for your current stats. If you’re considering Human Ecology as a major then make sure that you score well on your SAT Bio exam. It would really have been better if you had scored a 5 on your AP Bio exam.
Your activities and awards are pretty geared toward your major, which is great. I suggest that you grab more leadership positions in your field of interest to boost your stats up. Remember to write a good essay that connects to your interests! Good luck!
