Chance Me for Cornell

Girl from Washington (state)! I'm very interested in Cornell but I have no idea if I even have a shot...

3.95 GPA UW but only top 14% of class (ranks at our school do not consider rigor of classes)
took the hardest classes available, but unfortunately that only means 5 Honors classes and 2 APs.

2030 SAT I (630 CR, 710 Math, 690 Writing) -- taking them again this October
620 Chem, 610 Math II, 540 French (don't think I'll mention the French) -- horrible day..taking more subject tests this November

Extracurriculars:
Freshman year our Destination Imagination team made it to Nationals and also got the Spirit of D.I. Award (won more awards before high school). Had to quit because it was too time-consuming, but I was committed to it for 7 years.
Key Club lieutenant governor, KeyTV Committee Chair, Creator of Recap Videos (also do a lot of film work in my broadcast production class, working on a movie for my senior project)
Community service--about 500+ hours, volunteer at local library for many years, our discovery science center (a member of Women in Neuroscience group), this summer volunteering at a lab
Piano study for 11 years, violinist in school Orchestra for 9 years (attended piano camp this summer, working on composing a film score for my movie)
Senior Class President
Varsity Softball, 2-year (expected 3-year) letter awards, made All-League Second Team, League Champions, state participant 2 years
Languages--study French at school, Japanese (will begin taking college classes this fall) and Arabic independently

half-Japanese, half-Syrian: before I was four I knew Japanese, Arabic, and Spanish (we lived in Argentina for a while) but unfortunately when we moved here I lost all those. Not sure if that's worth mentioning...

Are my stats good enough for me to be a viable candidate for ED? I'm worried about financial aid, but on the website it sounds like they provide grants for any family income of less than $60,000? Also the distance...

I want to be a neuroscience major and interested in College of Arts & Sciences. Do I have a hook anywhere? What should I emphasize in my application? Any suggestions (other than the obvious "improve your scores") would be great, thanks!

Your gpa is good, your ranking is really low, as are your test scores. If you improve your test scores and write killer essays, you could possibly have a small shot. Apply ED and see what happens. Best of luck.

I agree with the poster above in that you should apply ED, it will increase your chances. I think you have good ecs as well as a decent GPA:) However, I would strongly suggest you do the best you can on your SATs when you retake them this October. You can’t do too much about your ranking in a small period of time, but if you were to increase your SAT score I would say you would have a better chance. At this point I would think it would be a reach, but with an improvement of SAT scores, you may get in. Good luck!

If you improve your test scores, you have a decent shot. Good luck.

Good Grades, raise your scores a bit, solid EC’s. You have a decent shot.
