hey im thinking of applying to cornell and was wondering about my chances.

was class valedictorian (rank 1)
national topper in A level physics
SAT 1 score: 2330 (760 reading, 770 math, 800 writing)
SAT2 : 2400 (physics, chemistry, math level 2)
studied English for 4 years, french for 3.

5.have been doing research at an institute for a while in the past year.
6.taught A level physics at my school for 2 months.
7. play guitar and bongo drums.

essay is excellent, and so are the teacher evaluations.
am applying for a physics major.
im indian and am applying as an international student.
so what do you think of my chances?

c’mon guys, no replies?

You should apply MIT, not cornell.

You have a decent to an above average chance since your SATs are high, although there will be several other applicants like you. The Ivy League is a reach to mostly everyone.

MIT…hmm why do you say?
by the way what do you think about caltech?

a lot of Indians apply to MIT… honestly, very competitive there.

Pretty typical applicant for a physics student, IMO.

You might think about instead applying to Engineering Physics. You might stand a better shot as an international.

And sorry to burst tomzhang’s bubble, but Cornell and MIT are peer institutions when it comes to Physics/Engineering Physics.

but the thing is that im not interested in engineering physics. besides i read that there was a scholarship for indian students at cornell.

What have you been doing since graduation and now…?

well i was preparing for one of the competitive exams for half a year, but that was really getting me down, and by the time i got my parents to let me apply abroad it was too late to apply for 2009.
since then and now ive taugth A level physics, researched protein behavior, and volunteered with an NGO.
waddya think?

buuuuuuuuump!
