Coursework
I took AP Chem, World, Euro, US History, and Lang, although I probably won’t submit my score of 3 for Chem. I will take AP Environmental Science, Calculus, Lit, Psychology, Gov, and Econ senior year.
I self-studied Italian 8th grade and freshmen year, but my current high school (moved states) didn’t allow that. So I took three years of honors French.
For creative writing specifically, I took a precollege Creative Writing Multigenre Workshop at Columbia University. Many of my electives relate to creative writing, including journalism; I’m the editor-in-chief of my school’s newspaper.
This summer, I hope to attend Iowa Young Writers’ Workshop, research for a college professor (probably at Vanderbilt), and get an internship at a writing house close to me.
I received a Scholastic Silver Key and have a blog. I’m hoping for some other writing awards, but won’t hear back until a month or so.
I babysit regularly and work a part-time job. I’m a student athletic trainer and work on my school’s lit mag. I help lead a nonprofit and graduated from my city’s Youth Leadership program. I’m very involved in my church and lead a small group at my school. I’ll have roughly 100 service hours by the time I graduate.
My AP Lang teacher, who is known for writing very good letters of recommendation for only a few students, will write one of my rec letters. My journalism teacher, who I have had for three years, is writing another. Not to toot my own horn, but my essays will most likely be one of the strongest parts of my application.
