I am applying to Purdue as a CS major with Cyber-security (Polytechnic Institute) as a second choice and just wanted to check my competitiveness in getting in as these fields are getting really competitive these days. I am an International student (Asian) who is doing IBDP from India. I will be applying through an Early Action.
Here are my stats.

Grades:

10th: 5A*s and 4As (IGCSE board exam result)

11th Term 1: 36/42 (IBDP)
(7 - SL Computer Science, HL Physics 6 - Spanish SL, Math HL, Economics HL 4 - English SL)

11th Term 2: 37/42 (IBDP)
(7 - SL Computer Science, HL Physics, HL Maths 6 - Economics HL 5 - English SL, Spanish SL)

Predicted Grade: 43/45 (IBDP)
(7 - SL Computer Science, HL Physics, HL Maths, HL Economics 6 - English SL, Spanish SL + 3 bonus points)

Standardized Scores:

SAT - 1410 (790 Math, 620 English)
Physics Subject Test - 760 (Giving again on November probably 800 this time)
Math level 2 - 800
AP - Calculus BC: AB Subscore - 4

Extracurriculars:

  • 80+ hours of volunteering in a nearby school for disabled students.
  • Developed an android app of English to Sign-language converter for helping them in communicating. (Currently being used by visitors in that school)
  • The team leader of teaching mathematics to underprivileged kids in a nearby foundation.
  • 2 Cs Internships (One for app development and the other for software development assistant)
  • Varsity footballer (Won best goalkeeper awards in several tournaments)
  • IAYP India Silver Standard Recipient (Requires 6 months of consistent effort in activity and services)
  • TA in school science club
  • Comp Sci course in Summer school in the nearby university
  • Microsoft Office specialist in word and powerpoint 2013 (qualified till National Finals)
  • Letter of scholarship from deputy principal.
  • Qualified till national round in quite big engineering competition.

Recommendations:

One from my school counselor (quite strong) and the other one from my physics teacher (Knows me personally and wrote a strong one)

Essays:

I think its quite strong.

CS is a reach now for all students as it’s become extremely competitive. The 1410 SAT is on the low side.

Polytech, you should be fine with.

Be aware though that if you are needing merit aid, Purdue is stingy with their awards.

Also, Purdue doesn’t consider subject test scores.

Thanks, I know my SAT is on a lower side, and that keeps me worrying.
I hope to get in either of them.
