im applying for computer science. my unweighted gpa is 3.45 and UCgpa /weighted are both around 3.73. my sat is 2240 but i go to a really competitive high school and my sat 2 math is really good. i sent one ap score. my essays are really really unique and i know no one else did the topic i did, and it makes me stand out because i did a very unique activity. all my essays are unique. decent extracurriculars. i am indian female.
what are my chances for any of the mid uc’s like ucsb uci ucd?
@Gumbymom
Your competitive high school will be taken into consideration, but UC’s are very GPA focused. You also happen to apply to one of the most competitive majors at all the UC’s.
What is your HS course rigor like? How many AP’s did you take and how many available at your school?
Are you in-state CA?
What is your SAT breakdown (Math and CR)? Score on the Math 2 test?
Any major related EC’s?
Edited: What other schools do you have on your list? Safeties? Any acceptances?
thank you so much for the reply! @Gumbymom
there are around 15 ap’s offered at my school and 8 honors offered, and i took 6 ap’s and 2 honors. but that is considered very rigorous at my school since most of us cant take many ap/honors in 9th and 10th grade. so my course rigor is decent. my school is pretty notorious for being competitive.
and yes i am in state CA.
i got 730 on math and 740 on cr and 770 on writing.
my math 2 test was 780.
and one of my ec’s involved graphic design but i have a lot of volunteering experience and clubs . i also tutored other highschoolers for two years, i do art, and i had a summer job which was a leadership role. i also am part of many clubs at my school.
im hoping my essays will pull me through because they were very unique.
i applied to scu and sjsu. i got into sjsu. i applied ea for scu and i got deferred, and i applied for the college of engineering which has an average gpa acceptance of 3.76 unweighted, so i think my essay helped me there alot since my gpa is 3.4 unweighted.
SJSU is a tough admit for CS and I thought their Eligibility index cutoff was around 4500 which according my calculations for your EI puts you below that cutoff? You were accepted into the CS program at SJSU? Are you local?
UC’s are very GPA focused and I have seen many Engineering/CS majors get waitlisted or rejected with below 4.0 UC GPA’s but high test scores. I think UCI is your best bet, even though they love those 4.0+ GPA’s.
UCSB/UCD will be tough but still possible.
Good luck and let me know how the UC decisions go for you.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%
Yeah I was accepted into the CS program at SJSU, but i live near san jose so i am local. my csu gpa was around 3.7 i believe and my sat total was 2240.
What is my chance for ucsc with my stats for computer engineering?
and yes i will keep u updated on my uc decisions, hoping my unique essays pull me through.
@Gumbymom
Your chances are definitely better for UCSC just based on the admit rates I posted above^^^^.
