Chance me for CSE please?

I'll be a senior this year hoping to do chemical engineering at U Minn. Stats are as follows:
Rank 17/416, top 5%
3.79 UW GPA, 4.38 W
34 ACT (36 Reading, 32 Math, 35 Science, 34 English, 8/9 essay)
President of National Honor Society, 180 service hours, Secretary of Latin Club, Key Club, a few other ECs.
Taking 5 APs next year

Also, what are my chances at the Honors College? I know its very elite. And one final question... I'm from Florida. Is Minnesota weather going to kill me?

Ajax…Here is a link to the profile of admitted students for this fall. You’d be applying to CSE which, along with CBS, are the toughest colleges to gain admission to at the U. It looks like your stats are very competitive for CSE though, especially with your very strong ACT score.

[Academic Profile](Academic Profile of Fall 2022 Admitted Freshman Applicants by College | Office of Admissions)

I also think your stats give you a good shot at being invited to join the Honors program, but that has also gotten more competitive recently. I’d recommend applying as early as you can to increase your chances at university-wide merit scholarships, etc. There’s a good chance you’ll have answers to all your questions (admission, Honors, and scholarships) before Christmas.

Regarding the weather…will it kill you? No…but it may leave you with a severe limp  . Just kidding…kinda. If you haven’t spent much time in winter climates, it can be a pretty big shock. The good news is that this past winter was very mild by Minnesota standards, but I wouldn’t expect that trend to last. There are plenty of students from warm states that attend the U though, so you’ll be just fine. Bundle up like everyone else and embrace the winter activities…you just might learn to love it!! Good Luck.

Realize that after the first semester sophomore year, if you do not have a 3.2 average, you have to reapply to get in the chem engineer program.

The UM CSE provides a great engineering program. My prospective student is also applying to the CSE with a very similar profile to yours Ajax except her school doesn’t provide a class rank. We’ve been to the campus twice and you can’t go wrong in the Twin Cities.

CSE has a great asset to provide students, the Mpls/StP metro area and the interships it can provide. If you haven’t toured the college and CSE, do so you’ll be impressed.

I don’t think many people looking at excellent state university engineering programs in the midwest consider U of Minnesota when there is Illinois, Purdue, Michigan and Ohio State available. That would be their loss.

Best of luck Ajax.
