Additional Info :

I’m also a gap year applicant. Although I’d never had the intentions to take a gap year, my family could not afford to send both my twin and myself to the colleges we had gotten into. One of us was going to have to put our academic futures on hold for the time being and I wasn’t going to let my brother get dragged down (although he has since transferred to a community college, so I can now afford to attend schools). However, despite how negative the nature of this gap year may sound, this has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable years of my life. Throughout this gap year I’ve pursued my ESports career in Counter Strike : Global Offensive while also taking many mathematics courses on Khan Academy and a multitude of programming courses on sites similar to CodeAcademy in an attempt to further my knowledge in the subjects I’m passionate about.

ESport Achievements :

-ESEA Rank G (only the top 250 players in a game with 11,000,000+ daily users are invited)

-1st Place Faceit Point Cup x2

-2nd Place ESEA MSI Club - September 18th, 2018

-3rd place ESEA MSI Club - October 8th, 2018

-S29 ESEA IM

-$1,000+ in prize money/equipment won

Math courses taken on Khan Academy :

-Differential Calculus

-Calculus 1

-Calculus 2

Programming languages that I’ve been learning on Code Academy:

-Python

-C++

In the months that are to follow, I plan on doing the following…

-Travel across the US to attend LAN events

-Take Khan Academy’s Electrical Engineering and Organic Chemistry

-Continue to further my knowledge of Python and C++

Also, my brother attended CU Boulder last year if that makes any diff

It depends on what your coarse load was, if it was high for STEM i’d say you are almost guaranteed atleast pre-engineering.

@Nightingalej

Ty for the response

Regular regents sci courses for science (Living Eviro, Chem, Physics, etc…)

Alg in middle school, Geo in Fresh, Alg2 in Soph, Precalc in Junior, and college level/administered algebra and trig the last year

Regular regents? Did your school offer ap/ib?

@Nightingale They offered honors for some courses and AP for some.

All of my science courses were regular. For math, Geo was honors and the algebra and trig courses I took senior year were college classes that our community college offered at my HS.

Worst case scenario you get admitted to exploratory studies and transfer to engineering after a year. If there is a way show CU that you have taken calculus do it, this is important, it will help a lot with your chances.

@Nightingalej for RIT an admissions officer emailed me and asked if I could send them any sort of grades from khan academy. I took pictures of all the test grades directly from the site, emailed it to him, and he said that was fine.

Although I listed these courses in the additional info section on the common app, RIT was the only school I sent the grades to.

However, since Boulder already started releasing decisions for some wouldn’t it be too late to send in? I‘m also not sure if I have any specific counselors to email

Oh, you already applied? Send in those grades asap, if you havn’t heard back yet they will probably factor in your khan academy grades. You are cutting it close though.

@Nightingale yeah hehe laughs anxiously

I’ll put together an email right now. Is just sending it to the regular admissions email okay?

Also, I was waitlisted for engineering at Virginia Tech. Do you think emailing VT the same thing would be any good?

Send them to all your schools, if there is a contact email in your portal send them to that, if not idk.
