Thanks a bunch!

Hard to say how they will handle rank. Dartmouth and the other top schools take fewer than 5% who were not top 10% and the vast, vast majority of those have true hooks. You would have to offer something they really, really want.

Well… I wished they kept track of ranks for each school year. Then I’d have 1/240 for both my sophomore year and my junior year…

I wouldn’t expect to get in at Dartmouth ED. Their intl applicants are really strong, especially from Korea and your high scores don’t compensate for your low GPA. Based on past admissions results, Dartmouth seems to value high GPA/class rank more than high scores.
The fact of the matter is that you will be compared to other intl Koreans with the same scores as you (or higher) and 3.95 uw GPA’s and more interesting, less stereotypical EC’s. Who do you think will get in? I think you know the answer…

^ I know what you’re saying, and I agree for the most part. Had Cornell been a need-blind school for intl students also like Dartmouth, I would definitely ED Cornell. But then the fact that there are many top Korean students applying for Dartmouth ED… not sure. I thought Dartmouth was generally avoided by Koreans (there are ~50 intl Korean students in Dartmouth undergrad). As for the low GPA, will I be able to explain it somehow on my common app? Also, I do want to know whether I have a chance for the other schools. (adding Cornell ED to the list…) Thanks!!

bump… will chance back!

Other top schools that offer EA policies include U of Michigan, Georgetown, and Boston College; or Stanford and Yale if you are willing to enter into a restrictive early action policy. All of the first three mentioned would be what most call matches for you and would certainly give you a great chance for an early acceptance and safety.

but then if I apply for financial aid… things would be different. (assuming that those colleges DO offer some kind of FA to intl students)

Huh? Are you aware that Dartmouth has a new Korean president who is extremely well respected around the world? This was big, big news in Asia-the first Asian pres of an ivy.

Does Dartmouth really have 50 Koreans? If so, that would be a huge number in it’s tiny student body. More than 10% of the school!

uh… um… the last time I checked Dartmouth had more than 4000 students for just the undergrad–it’s only a bit smaller than that of Brown.

Whoops, my bad math, but 50 is a big number from any one country.

it’s 50 in all the undergrads combined… nothing when compared to other IVY schools D: kinda got off-track.

Dartmouth is considerably smaller than any other ivy and has an insignificant number of grad students-it’s a college. I think you’d be hard pressed to find 50 from any country other than the US.
