Chance me for Dartmouth ED, Vanderbilt, UVA, UMich, and USC?

Hey guys!

I’m a rising senior looking to apply to the following universities: Dartmouth (early decision), Vanderbilt (I might apply ED here instead of Dartmouth, but most likely RD), UVA early action, UMich early action, and USC. If someone could chance me, I would be truly appreciative!

I just put my stats/ec’s as you would on a decisions thread:

Job/Work Experience: Intern at an accounting firm for one summer, secretary for my mom’s work, some paid photography work
Volunteer/Community service: Volunteering at an inner city school, after school Spanish program where students pair up with bilingual Spanish students, Habitat for Humanity school trip, some out of school paid photography

Thanks again!

Quick bump. Any feedback is appreciated!

Even though you’re above the average with the SAT score, I assume the weighted GPA isn’t that good considering you’ve only taken 2 AP classes. Also, the EC’s are average, nothing pops out. I’m also not sensing a hook, which for top schools can be that last deciding factor that puts you over. I would give you a 50/50 chance for Dartmouth ED (as 25% are accepted and you’re an above average applicant), but UVA and Vanderbilt are definitely reaches being OOS. UMich is either a high match or slight reach, as is USC. All in all, your stats are very good, but nothing pops out that distinguishes you from the rest of the high scores group. Sorry for the blunt nature of this post, but I just see too many posters show too much kindness and give these teens a false hope.

What is your intended major?
Your GPA is right around the admission average for UMich (below average for CoE). Your test score is good while course rigor is okay. UMich LSA would be a high match to low reach while CoE would be a low reach as UMich consider GPA as most important.

You go to a private high school in Missouri. One of the better St Louis area schools? If so, that might help as some of them have strong ties to colleges. I would second tigerrocks13’s assessment. You are obviously very smart. 2340 is a killer SAT. You might seek help from a consultant in building your application or reviewing essays. Your UW GPA is the one that matters for most schools. Admissions officers will be looking at your school profile along with your transcript. How does 3.86 compare to your classmates!

If Vandy is your second choice and you don’t get into Dartmouth ED, I think you can apply ED 2 to Vanderbilt.

I got the UMich admission rate this year, it is 26%. So the OOS admission rate much be in the teens.

I think your stats are good for all those schools. They are your matches.

@tigerrocks13, OOS doesn’t matter for Vandy- it’s not a public uni.

Yeah I knew that @collegemom3717 . Just a mental lapse; we all have them. It was past midnight, so I was out. Hahahaha
