chance me for duke early decision?

my GPA is a 4.0 unweighted and will be a 4.21 UW by the end of this semester. For senior year I am gonna take AP English Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Psychology, AP Chem and AP Human Geo.
I got a 1980 on my SAT (BIG dissapointment. Will be retaking in June... shooting for 2100).
Took the ACT and got a 30... will retake it (was practicing and consistently getting 32). Also got a 780 on Bio sat 2 and 740 on math level 2.

Extracurricular wise, I am doing a ton of volunteering. This year I decided to do hospital volunteering and so far I have around 80-90ish hours at the hospital(doing 4 a week). Freshman and sophmore year I did volunteering at the school and at the library. Also, the summer after sophmore year, I helped out at a bball camp and helped kids read at a local library. Overall, I probably have around 200 hours?

As for awards, freshman year I won the all A's award, geomerty student of the year, and communication applications student of the year. Sophmore year (at my new school), I recieved the principals honor roll. This year, I won the Discus Award, an academic letter (for receiving a high GPA), and the prinicpal's honor roll. I will also be awarded several awards for the congressional award (probably bronze, silver, and gold certificates).

As for clubs, freshman year I was part of the student council (student ambassador). Sophomore year I was part of the spanish club, red cross club, and model UN. I couldnt become anything too big (i.e. president) because I left my old school when I moved to colorado springs. This year, I will be part of the national honor society and hopefully, soon, I will be part of the teen council for volunteers at the hospital. As for next year, I will be a member of STAH, Link Crew, and NHS. I am also going to make my own club and will be the president of it (Cricket Club---the sport).

This summer, I am going to possibly self study APs and do calculus work.

You can’t have a 4.21 UW. A 4.0 is the highest possible.

Hmmm. Your ECs are pretty weak for Duke, and their ED doesn’t give preference to people who apply. Maybe do a few things this summer like getting a job or possibly community service.

I meant 4.2 weighted… and I am already doing community service this summer (volunteer at hospital if u read it)

You might have a shot at it, but remember to come up with matches and safeties because it’s a tough school to get in to.

I don’t see too good of chances at Duke. SAT is important to retake, but ECs are on the weaker side.

ok… two people have said that my ECs are weak… what are so called “strong” Ecs like??

Part of the problem is that you moved so you couldn’t secure officer positions in the clubs you are doing. The other part is that, although it seems like you are active with the clubs, no focus or depth in a specific area of interest is apparent. It seems a little incoherent. And also, there isn’t much that you are involved in outside of school which top schools like Duke are very interested in. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it.

yeah… thats what really sucks… I wish I could have stayed in a club for longer, but, as u know, I couldnt… In the end quality>quantity sigh

but does my volunteering not help my case at all? I will continue to volunteer at the hospital until I graduate out of high school and will be part of other volunteering opportunities at school with NHS, not to mention the other 200+ hours I had freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

Volunteering helps, but a lot of people have volunteering so it’s not too much of a distinguishing activity.

ok, then what do u think I should do this next year if I want to stand out? I thought that making a cricket club would be something different- but I guess it isnt?

no, cricket’s interesting. Did you play in any leagues/win anything? That would be nice to add.

Well, it should be up and running next year-so, no we have not won anything. We are going to try to look into playing in a league, but there is a slim to none chance that there is one in this relatively small city I live in.
