Rec Letters:
They should be pretty good… I’m pretty close with the counselor too.

Academic performance is solid, however ECs are a bit typical. I would waver 50-50 between defer and accept for Duke ED. It all depends on your essays and teacher recs. Good luck!

@allnighter21 Thanks for the reply! Just crossing my fingers now.

Academics are solid. I think you did a nice job of distancing yourself from the ‘typical asian’ with the inclusion of humanities.I’d say you have a good shot. Good luck!

@ivyleaguedreamen Thanks so much!

Whats your class rank (if school doesn’t rank, then what is your estimated)?
How many APs offered in your school?
How do you know that your essays are 9/10 and 8/10?
Are you ethnic Korean? if so did you take another language class besides Korean in high school? How did you do ?

@sgopal2 Hi! My class rank is officially 1 out of 328. But it’s weird because it ranks from unweighted GPA. So there are like multiple people who are ranked 1.

My school now offers 15 AP courses.

I don’t LOL. I just label my essays those scores, mostly out of hope.

I am ethnically Korean. I took Spanish all the way up to Junior year. Got all A’s on them.

Ok one last question: how many valedictorians will there be in your graduating class (approx)?

@sgopal2 One valedictorian, one salutatorian

Since you ED Duke, and both your extra and statistics are extraordinary, I think you have really good chance!!!
Since you plan to major in Economics, your internship as salesmen definitely helps a lot. Did you mention it in you ECs? If you mentioned, you are definitely very strong applicant !

@JonathanChang Yes I did mention it! Thank you very much!

I think you have a good chance and applying ED I’m sure helped. Sorry I’m not to familiar with Duke. Your stats definitely out you at the top so hopefully they like your essays. Good luck

You said there would be more than one person with a rank of 1. Then later you said only one valedictorian. Which is correct?

I think you have a great chance of getting in! Those test scores are WOW, and I actually like your extracurriculars. With the extra push ED gives you, I think you have a good chance. Keep in mind that Duke strongly favors legacies, and may lessen your application chances because of that. I almost applied, but didn’t because of that high legacy ratio (more than 40% of accepted students are legacies).

@sgopal2 Rank of 1 is based on unweighted GPA. Ergo, there are a handful of students at my school with a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Valedictorian is based on weighted GPA and extracurriculars and such. That is chosen by the counselors at the end of the year.

@oceanblue92 Thanks a lot! My father almost went to Duke MBA, but he couldn’t last second due to work… Oh well. It is what it is haha.

your extracurriculars really stand out, and your scores are very competitive. I think you have an amazing shot at Duke ED… I wouldn’t be surprised if you got binded.

I think you have a good chance. You certainly have shown academic rigor and ability in all your scores across the board. You certainly have the baseline (Great scores, great extracurriculars, great leadership) . What are your essays about?

@Chicagodreams9 Can I PM you about them?

I think you have a great chance with your academics and activities, especially since you applied ED.

Can you guys chance me in return?
