I was thinking about applying ED but decided that it wasn’t the right option for me, you are a definite match , especially ED dude wow. If I may ask, where else are you applying?

Thank you everyone for such nice and thoughtful responses! Do you all really think I’m at high match/match? I thought I was more of a low reach at best.

@cadennl my second choice is Notre Dame, so I am applying early there as well. If I don’t get into Notre Dame or Duke I will be applying to WUSTL, Cornell, USC, Whitman, U Portland, U Oregon, and Gonzaga. Then maybe Penn or Johns Hopkins too. I’m not reaching for any schools like Stanford or anything because I love Duke, and other rejection letters aren’t worth my time.

I agree that the scores do seem aligned with your major and are impressively high too. I think duke is the match for you and you have great chance of getting in. I wouldnt really worry about french. Really hope u do get in! Gl

Chance me back if you have time plz :)

High match
Chance back?

Your activities don’t really align with your major. This probably isn’t a problem because you are doing the big research project, you have the rec from your bio teacher, you have impressive grades in bio classes, and Duke looks for a well rounded student. But it is the only hitch.

I think you will get in and, hopefully, I can see you there next year. =) Suerte.

In terms of GPA and test scores, you are solid for Duke.
If you claim you have a great essay, that’s amazing, because it goes hand-in-hand with your amazing research and your strong determination.

That all being said, remember this is Duke, one of the top 10 schools in the country, and you are by far not the most qualified applicant, although I would say you are very strong.

In any case, I would expect an acceptance letter come December 15. Good luck and chance back if you have time?

High match for sure. Test scores and your GPA are solid – along with those extracurriculars.

I think Duke will be very impressed. Hope to see you at Duke.

Bump anyone before I send in my app?

I think you have a very good chance at Duke, but it’s definitely not a shoe-in. Like others here, I’d say it’s either a high match or a low reach. (Is high match the tier right below low reach?) Definitely not a high reach, far from that. But it’s definitely not a shoe-in (is that low reach?) Your scores and involvements outside of school are excellent, but Duke does have a very competitive profile for the ACTs.

How are you highlighting your senior project in your application? I’d imagine that could help push you into the match range if it’s highlighted effectively.

Your “story” ie, extracurriculars and research and classes that you’ve built along your high school career, seems to be a perfect explanation for your major. Be sure to emphasize this in your supplements which it sounds like you will. As for those questioning your schedule, schools will view your classes in comparison to those that your school offers and that are typically taken at different years, so don’t worry about that part. I’d say that ED Duke is technically a reach for anyone and everyone but you certainly have a strong story and applying ED will surely help. GOOD LUCK! Also thank you for chancing me :)

i think it is a low reach! hopefully you hear the good news!

I’m also applying to Duke ED so hope to see you there in the fall. Please chance me back

duke: Match rock those essays and distinguish yourself. You will get in.

I think you have a good chance, especially with those beast ECs.

Chance me back?

Good ECs
Bad APs
Not-So-Good SATs and Subject Tests
High Reach

I have to agree with the majority of the posts. You have some very good chances. Apply soon, don’t worry, open that email and hope for a yes!

Chance?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1564865-chance-me-will-chance-back-emory-ed.html

Fellow Duke ED applicant here. You are in around the same boat as me, except for the research, that’s awesome. The general consensus I have been seeing is a low reach maybe even a little better. I would not report or even say you took any sat subject test other than bio, make sure your essay highlights why you are passionate about medicine and how Duke can fulfill your passion. Best of luck, maybe I will see you next year (fingers crossed) feel free to chance back, or even just let me know what you like/suggest on my app http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567485-chance-me-duke-ed.html

I would agree that your application should be strong.

However, an important note I would add, is that your resume screams out that your family has resources (wealth) and you have had opportunities not available to most students. In particular:

-Notre Dame Summer Scholars program
-a week of travel in Paris
-Ski instructor
-foreign mission trip

I have heard numerous adcoms state that their level of expectation increases for applicants who come from wealthy families. The assumption is that you have had extensive test prep coaching, private tutoring in your class work, access to unique EC opportunities, etc.

Based on these assumptions, your research EC becomes somewhat less impressive. Adcoms won’t know if you truly did this on your own or if daddy set it up with a gofling buddy at the country club. Similarly, while it is outstanding that you have achieved success playing the bass/cello, it can be tempered if you have had expensive private lessons for years.

I still think you will be a solid applicant with a good chance at admission. At worst, you have been effective at taking advantage of the oppotunities available to you. I just wanted to offer a word of caution.

I’d say that you are a strong applicant for Duke, but you’re going to (obviously) have to see how the other students are that are applying).
I’d say Duke is a low reach (it’s always a reach for anybody)

Mine please?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567285-chance-transfer.html

I’d say match to high match. Your ECs are pretty strong and the fact that you attend a top 10 high school will certainly play in your favor.
