Chance me for duke ed!!!!

Duke is my dream school so I will be applying ED in the fall. Also, I am being recruited as a track athlete at many other highly competitive schools and I have been talking to the Duke coach and he said track will help my app and I have a spot on the team if I get in, but I am not being actively recruited. I have an ACT composite of 30 (a superscore of 31) with extremely high English scores (34 English, 36 Reading) I have an unweighted gpa of 3.7 and I go to one of the most competitive private high schools in the nation. As for APs I have taken AB calc, stat, bio, and econ and have gotten A's in all of these. As for extracurriculars I have 3 varsity letters in field hockey, one for cross country this year and I am all state, and I am a 3 time state champion in track,10 times all state, I have been captain for two years and I helped my entire team win the state championship for the first time in school history. I also hold more school records than any track athlete at my school ever has. I am captain of my schools pepband and have been in band for 7 years and have won multiple awards and recognitions. For three years I have volunteered as a coach for an inner city public school track team and a team over the summer. I also participate in club track in the summer and winter with many of the same kids so I serve as a coach as well. I am also the co founder and co head of a free speech club at my school, I volunteer at an organization called food outreach which provides food and assistance for people with cancer and AIDS. I also do various community service activities in my free time (race for the cure, food bank, etc.) My rec letters will be fabulous and my common app essay is pretty unique as well as my why duke essay. I know my test scores are low for Duke, but I have never been a strong test taker so I am hoping everything else will outweigh my mediocre test scores. Chances?? Thank you!

Also, I do not need financial aid. Will this increase my chances??

Sorry I forgot to include that I am a white female!

I think Duke looks at the overall person and what makes them unique more then test scores. Granted test scores are important, but the people that are here at Duke are exceptional people who aren’t defined by their test scores. They are rather defined by their unique achievements in extracurricular activities though all are stellar students as well. It is a challenging and hard school academically, but it looks like you’ve got a lot of other things going for you to balance out those test scores. Duke is need blind unless you are international so not needing financial aid won’t really matter much. With that in mind, many other talented students are applying, and the school wants to see that you can do the work if you come, so I would be cautiously hopeful.

I think you’re a match. A little worried about your ACT score though, because I have a lot of friends (used to live in Chapel Hill/Durham) who go to Duke, and they’ve all had REALLY high SAT and ACT scores… but hopefully all of your other qualities make up for it.

Please chance me back?
