Chance Me for EA Tulane and Purdue?

Demographics: Second generation Indian male from California. I attend an academically rigorous school in Silicon Valley. My father attended Tulane for graduate school.

Intended major: Electrical engineering.

SAT Score: 1500.

Unweighted GPA: 3.45

Weighted GPA: 3.7

Class Rank: Top 50%

Coursework: Biology Honors, AP English Language, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Environmental Science, AP Seminar, AP Chemistry, and AP Economics Macro.

Extracurriculars: Varsity Debate, teacher at a debate camp during the summers, started an economics club with around 30 members, started a youth computer science initiative with over 50 members and two branches, and I played for my school’s JV badminton team.

Other: Due to family problems and a medical condition, I got a 2.5 GPA during the first semester of my sophomore year.

Be sure your guidance counselor is aware of, and makes note of the circumstances your sophomore year in their letter of recommendation.

GPA and course rigor are very important for Purdue engineering. Hopefully AP calc and physics are on your schedule for your senior year. From OOS I think it’s going to be a reach.

Agree that GPA/rank make a Purdue engineering a reach. 25th percentile last year was a 3.69UW, per their data digest.

Extenuating circumstances are considered. But removing one 2.5 semester gets me a 3.64 for the remaining, assuming you’ve finished junior year.

Math isn’t mentioned in your coursework. That will be key in applying to any engineering school. Honors courses, leading to Calculus as a Senior, is the minimum most other applicants will have.
