Chance Me for EA??

Hi! This is my first CC post, but I thought I would give it a shot. I am thinking of applying to Notre Dame Early Action. If anyone can look at my stuff and give feedback, I'll do the same!

SAT: 2210 (740CR/680M/790W)
ACT: 32 (34R/34M/28S/10Essay)
GPA: 4.3
Class Rank: school doesn't rank, probs top 5%
APs: AP US History (5) (school only offers 5 or 6 AP classes) my next year schedule includes AP Calculus AB, AP English Lit, and AP Physics
I have only ever gotten 1 B, and it was B+ in Freshman Art:/

Extracurriculars:
3 years Varsity Volleyball (probably captain for senior year)
4 years varsity Softball
2 years varsity basketball

service trip to Nicaragua during sophomore year
service trip to Lourdes, France summer before senior year
100+ service hours by graduation

held 2 prefect positions junior and senior year (basically my school's version of student council)

summer job at high school research lab at QuarkNet Center at Notre Dame
job as sales associate at a Reebok store for 1.5 years

I'm interested in studying History, or maybe Theology.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Need to get that ACT up.

I agree with Sassymom. According to the mailing my DS just received, the average ACT for the class of 2016 was a 33. I would encourage you to contact your regional admissions rep. They are the only people truly qualified to tell you whether or not to apply ED. Best of luck!

I would only send the SAT and not the ACT since the score translates higher. Also, the SAT can be superscored. Try taking it again and prepare especially for the Math section.

Whats your unweighted gpa?

Sassymom- I was only planning on sending my sat. I’m retaking it so I can get the math score up.

And I already contacted my regional rep, but I haven’t gotten a response yet. I’m assuming she probably gets hundreds of emails.

Unweighted, it’s about a 4.1-4.2

I think you look pretty good. I would agree to send the SAT or try taking either again to boost it a bit. Otherwise, I think you are a fairly good shot for RD and maybe even EA, though hard to say. But, then again, it’s always hard to say with ND! Good luck!

50 more SAT points would be very helpful.

I’m confused about what an unweighted GPA of 4.1-4.2 means. I suppose if an A+ is worth 4.3, then you could achieve this. But, nothing lower than an A and more A+ than plain A seems unrealistic.

And then rank is only top 5%? This means you have multiple classmates competitive with this GPA. Perhaps this is a case of grade inflation run rampant.

My class only has maybe 60 people? And actually, there are consistently 10-12 people with over 4.0. It’s actually just a really smart class, but I’m at or near the top. I was just guesstimating

And an A+ is 4.33

I know the OP. Her class has been described by the head of her school as a “once in a generation” class, full of very, very bright kids, and I know her school well. Believe me when I say there is no grade inflation there, just lots of hard work.

Hi Indy1234, this is my first post too! We visited Notre Dame a few months ago, and they said that applying to EA should mean you are presenting your best case at that time. If you need to raise your test scores, you might want to apply RD. Also, they only look at CR and M, not Writing on the SAT. So you might want to think about getting that Math score up, and then applying. Hopefully your regional rep will respond to you, to help you further. Good luck!!
