<p>I am a black female from a top public school in NJ (EXTREMELY competitive), planning to major in sociology</p>

<p>SAT: 2180 (690 CR, 750 math, 740 writing)</p>

<p>Weighted GPA: 3.67, my school doesn't do unweighted nor class ranks.</p>

<p>Senior class load: AP Biology, AP Calc, AP French, Honors English, Middle Eastern Studies Honors, World Film, Concert Chorus, and Sociology (GPA for this year so far is around 4.0 weighted)</p>

<p>Have taken a majority of Honors and AP's throughout high school, only a few standard-level classes (mostly electives). I also have taken 4 years of science, math, history, foreign language, and english if that helps.</p>

<p>Major Awards: National Achievement Scholarship Semi-Finalist, Chemistry Science Olympiad</p>

<p>Extracurricular:
Student Supervisor of Volunteers at Cerebral Palsy of NJ, head of all volunteers
French tutor
Dance captain/choreographer for all school musicals
Classical ballet training at top ballet school in NJ, member of professional dance company
French National Honors Society
Science National Honors Society
Volunteer work at soup kitchen
Work experience at local frozen yogurt shop</p>

<p>Essays: Pretty good, wrote about my diverse heritage and how I have learned to embrace it and how it has affected my character. I'm pretty proud of it, and got it revised by some great teachers. Supplements are good as well, straight to the point and show how passionate I am about my intended career</p>

<p>I agree with Catria completely! Being a sociology major and from a prestigious school helps a lot, and you have good SATs for those schools.</p>

<p>Thank you for your responses! The only thing I am worried about is that 50+ students from my school applied to Northeastern EA, and I feel as though I am in the middle range of those students. How will this affect my chances?</p>

I think that a 2180, even if there are a bunch of people from your school applying, you’ve got a great shot. That’s above their 50% range.
NYU is the closest thing to a reach here but I think you’re doing well.</p>

<p>I honestly think you could get into Northeastern-you’ve got the activities, plus it’s pretty cool with all of your dance ECs. Fordham, too, you could get into. I think you also have a good shot at Boston and NYU (my friend is applying there, too!)! I don’t know too much about GWU, though. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor! :)</p>

<p>First, I think you can reach way higher. </p>

<p>Second, this isn’t a stab at just you, but I’ve been seeing a lot of these and I don’t get it. I don’t really understand the point of chance threads if you’re offering to chance back… if you’re qualified enough to chance other people, then why do you need other people to chance you?</p>

<p>And on the other hand, if you aren’t sure and need other people’s feedback, then why are you qualified to chance other people?</p>

<p>I think all of your schools are a match, especially with your SATs and extracurriculars. I’d think NYU would be a little bit of a reach but that’s it. I live near DC so I know a little about GW and I’d say match, especially with their recent rankings scandal (they could have fewer apps)</p>

I was chosen to be 1 of 4 participants in my school to participate, and placed at the regional level.</p>

<p>@newmitgrad I also feel like there are more prestigious schools that I would have a decent chance at getting into, but I’m so picky about what I want. My main requirement on my college search was being in a large city, preferably without a campus. The 5 schools above were really the only ones I could see myself, although I may apply to a few more if I am rejected EA from Northeastern.</p>

<p>Also, you bring up an excellent point. I guess people offer to chance back just to be courteous. However, I do think these kinds of threads can be beneficial. I kind of see it as peer-editing an essay; both people may be qualified, but sometimes the other person may have a different perspective or information that the other person doesn’t. Getting a second opinion never hurts. :)</p>

NYU: mid-reach, because it is pretty selective. However, your scores definitely qualify you as a solid candidate and your extracurriculars are outstanding. I think it also helps to be AA :slight_smile: </p>
