Chance me for Econ

Chance me for transfer to UCB and UCLA Econ from CCC
UC transferable GPA: 3.67
Overall GPA: 3.60
All prereqs completed
No TAP
Leadership experience: Was a Branch Manager for a construction company

Now I know the avg gpa for UCLA econ was 3.82 so I'm just wondering if I even have a chance. UCB doesn't have any official stats, but based on the info on CC I'd say UCB and UCLA are pretty close in terms of avg gpa. So chance me.

I hope that you applied to some back-up schools and not only UCLA and Berkeley. What grades did you get in your pre-reqs?

All As except for B in Calculus

how are your essays.

Everybody thinks he's gonna write "great" or "excellent" essays.

To the OP: you can find UCB stats here:

https://osr2.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/Access/DB/Frontends/runapp.pl

and here:

University of California: StatFinder

I'd say my essays are 8/10. I've had a few professors look them over.

The UCB stats link doesnt show GPA only % admitted

most people admitted to LA and Berkeley for econ have 3.8+.

No wonder you have a 3.6 from a CC.

UCB - Reach
UCLA - Reach

UCLA places a high emphasis on TAP. If rejected, I advise you to appeal. Last year, there were many 3.8+'s without TAP who were rejected to UCLA Econ.

I think UCB has its own TAP program and also places a high emphasis on honors coursework.

then you wanna show me how to display econ transfer admits by gpa

play with options in statfinder. it gives breakdown by major, gpa, and admit rate in the complex table

Honestly, UCLA would be a reach for you even with TAP. UCB probably would need at least a 3.8.

"No wonder you have a 3.6 from a CC."

Man I84ad8 why don't you wait until you've got grades for more than ONE term before you start bashing others grades? Congratulations you must be so much smarter than the OP to get 3 A's where the OP probably has 2 A's and 1 B. You think someone 10+ years older than the rest of us wouldn't be so immature.

nothing wrong with a 3.6 from CC.

Consider math/econ if you really want to go into UCLA . Higher admit rate with lower gpa. But there is those math courses you will need to take.

sstory: There is no excuse for laziness (not finding info after you were provided with the link). And, by the way, 3.6 means that the OP is lazy. CC courses are not rocket science, no talent is needed. In CC, you put sufficient effort, you get a guaranteed A.

I would not recommend it unless you're good at math. Math/econ will have upper division math, which is very difficult for an average person.

I'm not finding GPA specifically for ECONOMICS for Berkeley

For '07:

"Social Sciences (including econ)" = 3.76; "Haas" = 3.86

thus

3.76 < Econ < 3.86

You should be studying instead of obsessing about GPA for Cal econ admits. Unlike obsessing, studying may actually help you get into Cal.

Amen. 10char

"I would not recommend it unless you're good at math. Math/econ will have upper division math, which is very difficult for an average person."

Another person said it was a "grad school" major that didn't prepare him for a job out of college. That said, it's what I'm applying for.
