Chance me for ED Columbia SEAS and I'll chance back!

SAT I: 2290 (760 Reading, 760 Math, 770 Writing)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 640 Physics, 730 World History
GPA: 3.96 unweighted
APs: World History 5, Psycholgy 5, Chinese 5
APs in Senior Year: Physics B, Chemistory, English Language, European History, Calculus AB
Ethnicity: ORM Asian, (applying international as a Canadian)
Gender: female
Intended major: mech e
ECs: multicultural club captain, vice president of community fundraising club, school representative of a student led fundraiser, volunteer for teaching swimming/lifeguarding, peer tutor, school ambassador, badminton team manager (all of these activities are minimum 2 years)
Teacher Rec: two of my favorite/best classes/teachers
Counsellor: formulaic but still good. I'm the only one applying at my school
School: private, competitive, small
Essays: I put a lot of effort into my common app one, a lot of insight. Supplements are good.

Comments: gave up after finding out my horrendous physics mark. I don't think I have too big of an opportunity. I had a fantastic interview but I heard they don't make too big of a difference. Any kind CCers out there to chance me? I'll chance back.

Hey I think your GPA and SAT are great for this school (75th percentile?). Yet, I believe that your ECs are probably in the 25th percentile for this school. Overall, this gives you a 50-50 shot.

The reason I say this is because my own ECs were given a very poor rating and I believe I have slightly better ECs than you. Also, you are an Asian which hurts your chances if anything.

Also, your SATII physics doesn’t bode well for your intended major of Mech E. But I believe you’ve figured this out already lol

Chance me?

Thanks!!

Bump…

LOLSAURUS,
It’s difficult to tell for international applicants, but I would say you have a pretty good shot. I’m assuming you won’t be applying for financial aid? Int’l applicants typically don’t get very good FA offers. And while your unweighted GPA is very good, it’s your rank that would be more important (as well as weighted GPA).

Best of luck!

Female in engineering-- decent shot. 50/50 is my guess.

I agree with Waverly. I could see it go either way. Best of luck!

ew, sorry. double post.

bad: asian, physics sat ii, not so rigorous courses (ap cal ab, physics b in senior year), international applicant, lack of awards or recognitions

good: STEM female

good scores (except physics) and good gpa

columbia: reach

as an unhooked applicant, you do NOT have 50-50 chances
sorry, i am being honest

good luck to you

thanks everyone for the chances and for your honesty. I very much appreciate this. I will chance back ASAP!

You have a good chance. SAT and GPA are good. Like the others said EC’s are not as strong and being a female definitely helps.

I’d say probably 50-60% chance. Good Luck!

Chance me?

Much gracias everyone!

Great academics/scores. Female engineering will be a boost (a tad bit less because of ORM.) I think that you have a better than 50/50 shot assuming strong essays. Financial Aid, however, could be a concern (international.)

Great GPA, Great SAT/AP scores, and pretty good ECs. I’d say about 60% chance. Good luck and thanks for chancing me!

be harsh/honeest please… but thanks nonetheles!!

Looks good.
The being asian and physics might hurt a bit.
But I’d say you would be a pretty competitive candidate.

Your SAT and GPA are great. Your ECs are good but nothing special for Columbia, and could use a bit more of a science focus for SEAS. Overall I think that you have about as good a chance as anyone of getting in, but you can never be sure with such selective programs.
