Not really a hook at all but somewhat interesting background:
-Extreme anxiety problems stemming from grandma’s death when I was 5, I resisted change so much and would breakdown when anything “new” would happen to me (went to therapist when I was 9). Well, what do you know, my mom lost her job in the recession and we moved across the country. Saw another therapist when I was 11-12, for insomnia and anxiety. Whole story of how I forced myself to adapt and to push my boundaries. Another interesting hook possibility is how, in 9th grade, I was the worst runner on the track team. But over the next few years, I worked SO freaking hard and am now the #3 runner in school history (and we have had some great runners).
Would EDing for Columbia give me a good shot?
