CHANCE ME for ED PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

hi. ive been on the verge of insanity for the last couple days. i cant believe we find out in two weeks! im FREAKING OUT! so please chance me (please be brutally honest) and maybe i can beat some senses into myself and start working on the other apps which ihavnt touched...

applying to CC
Asian, female, go to a public school in B.C., Canada (its a pretty respectable school around here, and we are pretty competitive because of the IB program, but not that many apply to the US)

GPA : we use the percentage system, and my average is about 93. but there were a couple 89's and 88's. In canada an A is 86+, so my counsellor put that i have a 4.0, but if they decide to recalculate it, i might be in a lil bit of trouble. also, My counsellor put that although our school doesnt rank, im approximately top 10 in a class of 350 (not percentile)

Predicted grade: HL history : 6, HL geo : 6, HL physics : 6, SL english : 6, SL math : 6, tok+Extended essay : 3, and ive taken my SL spanish exam, and got a 6

SAT: taken once; CR 750 Math 790 Writing 720 (essay 8...iknow i know)
Subjects : math 2 - 780, physics - 770, literature - 640 (would this hurt me? cuz the other two are pretty decent and they said they look at the two highest...)

Essay : i was pretty happy with it, and lots of ppl thought it was good, but ive just had a guy from the Stanford Eng phd program read it a couple days ago and he thought my insight was artificial...so i dont know ='(

Recs : i know one to be good for sure, the other one i have no clue, and my counsellor's rec mustve been pretty generic. i also sent in a suppl. rec from my internship at an i-bank and it is AMAZING

Others : pretty good ECs. Student Council president, founded a humanitarian club, was picked to lead our school in a multi-district project for increased social responsibility, principal flute for the city orchestra, managed a business at school last year, and many more with heavy leadership positions. (i know i have enough, but im just worried that it doesnt show focused passion. is it really hard to believe that im just really interested in a lot of things?) also, a month-long internship at a top-tier i-bank last summer. wrote about it in my essay. as far as awards go...nothing impressive other than placing third in a competition to become the youth representative for Canada in G8 Summit 2008.

i dunno.... im telling myself to not expect much from this because if i dont get in, im worried that ill fall really hard and do a crappy job on my RD apps..but at the same time i cant help but picture myself in Columbia....I WANNA GO THERE SO BADLY
chance this poor kid, please?

Now where would he get that impression? :P.

Your grades and test scores are very competitive and I don't think you should lose any sleep over them.

What did you write about in your essay?

The fact that you don't have an predicted 7s for IB exams may be a problem. But since your counsellor wrote that you had a 4.0 GPA, you should be okay.

i wrote about how i expected i-banking to be really glamourous but was totally disillusioned by how stressed and tired all these ppl were...but then how they still manage to find the joy in little things in life like the rest of us and still be passionate about their job, and how that inspired me. the guy told me that it was an observation i could've made even if i wasnt there for a month, and i should've written about something that only someone who's actually been there would know.... so im like really worried now and totally baffled. i could pm the essay if you would like.

Feel free but anything you do at this point isn't going to change your essay. Personally, I'm glad that you arrived at that conclusion because there are still plenty of people who got into Columbia and haven't woken up to the reality of IB.

bump bump bump!!! anyone else would like to shed some light on this???

yay! another canadian on the columbia board. your stats seem great! did you apply to SEAS or the college?

i think it would come down to your essay. i'm not applying so send it to me: srrinath@gmail.com

i applied to the college. bump bump bump!

honestly, you have a good a chance as any. The fact that you are canadian/Asain will work in your favor. Your stats also seem pretty well rounded and you have great ec's
