I'll be applying for the 2012-13 school year and am strongly considering Early Decision. I am applying for chemical engineering at SEAS.

Important ECs: Drum major in the marching band for 2 years, tutor at a tutoring center, 8 years playing the clarinet, 4 years of math team, 4 years of Scholastic Bowl (JV captain soph. year), 1 year of speech team, 2 years of NHS, 2 years of Link Crew (freshman support/leadership group), National Merit Semi-Finalist, German Student of the Year, Homecoming Court. There are a few more, but nothing particularly notable.

I’m just going to say that I’d be thoroughly surprised if you got a rejection. You have a perfect ACT and UW GPA, and you have leadership and a life (drum major, Homecoming Court etc.).

If Penn is your top choice and there is no financial aid concern then definitely apply ED. Also, you are supposed to send all of your test scores. Otherwise, I think acceptance is highly likely.

I think you have a great chance simply based on your scores. Maybe elaborate more on one or two of your science activities just to get a nod from adcoms about your interests in their school.

@OP: Your profile is pretty strong. However, I hope you sent your SAT-I score. Penn requires ALL scores, which includes the SAT-I, SAT-II, and ACT. As in, if you’ve taken the test, you’ve gotta send it (PSAT and any exam before 9th grade, excluded).

You’re totally in, unless you botched the essays; and even then, they’d have to be pretty bad. Simply put, you’re exactly what they’re looking for.

I can only hope we get to take some engineering classes together next year!
