I’m a rising senior planning on applying to Wharton for Business Economics and Public Policy this fall (class of 2025), and I’m a white male from Virginia. I’d like to get some feedback considering the unique circumstances at the moment…

GPA: 4.48 (my school only does weighted GPAs)
Class Rank: Top 10
SAT: Might not be able to sit for the SAT because of COVID
Subject Tests: Very likely not going to be able to take these either.

  • Mu Alpha Theta member (Math Honor Society)

Essays:
I lived in Vietnam for 6 years so I plan on writing my Common App essay about that experience.

I’m mainly concerned that none of my extracurriculars are related specifically to business, and I’m wondering how Penn is going to view having no standardized test scores.

Unless a member of the Penn admissions committee, no one here has anything intelligent to say about your chances. Plan a balanced list of schools and make sure you’d be happy attending all of them.

If you’re familiar with the Penn applicant pool, you already know you’re average or below. That’s the pool you’re swimming in… Go for it but be prepared in case it doesn’t work out. There’s too much a student can’t control in Ivy League admissions.
