recruited athlete at JHU (coach said he would do everything he could to support my app as a prospective student-athlete, but ultimately it would come down to the admissions office)

BME is really hard, but the recruited athlete boost is great. What was your second choice major?

@sunshine232 neuroscience! do you think that changes the situation a bit?

I think you have a fair chance of being admitted to neuroscience.

@marccoreus11 I’m on the varsity swim team and there are 5 BME students among the 20 freshman on the team. I don’t know about track, but if you apply ED, you have a good chance of getting in as a BME.

@vrhou98 Thanks! Do you think I’ve got a good chance of getting in?

I think you have a high chance of getting in. It really depends on how good your essays are.

@marconeus11

(Current BME)

It’s important to keep in mind that BME admission is handled separately from regular admission and is - for the most part - not as transparent as regular admission. Your recruited status will most likely help your regular app (though it by no means garuntees you admission), but it will not help with BME admissions. You’re certainly academically qualified for the BME program, but the (estimated) BME admission rate is in the HYPS range so accurate chancing for BME is not possible.

Good luck.
