I come from a low-income, single-parent household.
Hooks: URM, first-generation, started philanthropic society to collect toiletries and distribute them to needy (hope to eventually turn it into a non-profit)

Please, someone?
I know it’s a really high reach, but I love it there and can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Hmm your status as a first gen URM definitely help, and your GPA/rank is in order (I’m assuming you took the most rigorous curriculum avalible? ) However, your scores are unfortunately holding you back quite a bit at this point. I’d say for a real shot aim for a 32or above on the ACT (34 or above preferred for best chances) and maybe consider retaking your SAT II’s (although they are not prohibitively low at this point, all things considered)

Edit: Oh and best of luck with everything! :)

Thank you so much. And yes, I’m aiming for a 32 on the ACT–I just took a practice and got a 31, so I’m looking to raise that.
Would it be better to take Math 1 or Math 2 for Dartmouth? I know UC’s want Math 2, but I think I’d be able to do a lot better on Math 1 (considering my lowest score for the SAT was in math). Does it matter? Thanks!

Dartmouth will not care either way on the Math 1/2 issue. An important note though is that the math 1 curve is much more vicious than the math 2 one, but go for the one you can get the highest score in.

Your grades and rigor and ECs look good, but as you already know your scores are almost all subpar for D, including most of your AP exams. This indicates that your preparation hasn’t been strong. (I really question how a “National Hispanic Scholar” could get a 580 on the Spanish SAT II!)

What was your SAT breakdown? Did you break 700 in anything?

Certainly, a good ACT would help. You need to convince them that you would not be overwhelmed at D, since that would probably be their only concern about you.

Hahaha, National Hispanic Scholar is from your PSAT score and indicating that you are at least 1/4 hispanic. That being said, I hardly speak it at all–and the curve for the SAT II for Spanish (from what I hear) is thrown off because so many native speakers take it.

SAT: M 610, CR 670, W 700
From the practice ACT exams I’ve been taking, it looks like it’ll be a higher score (hopefully, at least.)
Thank you! :)

Oh! And an 11 on the essay.

bump :)
