Chance me for ED

I am currently a senior at an all male Jesuit High School in Massachusetts, which is known to be competitive academically and extremely competitive athletically. Religion is a required course and is relatively challenging.

GPA (with religion): 4.24
GPA (without religion): 4.33

GPA is based on a 4.0 scale with a .5 weight for honors classes and a 1.0 weight for AP classes.

Class Rank: My school doesn't officially rank us, but I'm somewhere in the top 10 out of a class of roughly 300.

I've taken a total of 8 honors classes and I will have taken 7 AP classes upon graduation. My school requires all students to apply for honors and AP classes with departmental approval being granted to a certain number of qualified students. My school also limits AP classes to Juniors and Seniors except in certain circumstances.

AP scores: European History-5
French Language-5

Current schedule: Physics C AP, Calculus BC AP, English Literature and Composition AP, AP Chemistry, World Religions, and French V College Level Literature (replacement French Lit AP)

I'm expecting 5's on all of those exams.

SAT's: 2320 800 in Math and Writing and a 720 in Critical reading

SAT II's: 720 in Chemistry and US History Sophomore year
800 in French and a 760 in Math II

Extra Curriculars:

Concert Band 10-12. First Trumpet as well as a Band leader. Band Leaders are selected by my conductor to help with music selection, organizational matters, as well as to run sectional rehearsals.

Student Council 11, 12

National Honor Society 11, 12

Academic Decathlon 12

Arrupe Mentor 11. Arrupe mentors are chosen by faculty to be mentors for my high school's 7th graders.

Participant in the BioGen Idec community lab program

Community Service: It's required so I don't really consider it an extra curricular; however, I've done probably 150-200 hours throughout high school. A lot of it went into tutoring inner city children in Math and English.

Yeah I know, no varsity athletics, OMG. In reality though, I'm an athletic kid, I'm just not a superstar in any one sport. Like I previously mentioned, my school is extremely competitive athletically and takes home state championships in multiple sports each year, so a lot of kids are left out to dry athletically.

Awards:

High honors through high school.

English I, Algebra I, and Global History I class awards Freshman year.

English II class award Sophomore year

Algebra II Honors, English III Honors, Physics Honors Junior year.

Laureat Nationale Award winner in the National French Exam 9, 10, 11

Collins Language award 10

First place honors on the National French Exam 10

Recs: I'm expecting 2 fabulous teacher recommendations along with another supplementary rec from my Calculus professor at Boston College. My peer recommendation should also be superb.

Work Experience: I've been tutoring in Math, Science, and French multiple days a week and over the summer since my freshman year.

Misc: I've been studying French since the age of 6. First through third grade all of my classes were taught in French.

I plan on majoring in a science with some kind of a Pre-Med track.

A student with similar classes, GPA, and extra curriculars to me was accepted ED last year.

what is your unweighted GPA?

It’s a 3.9 with and without Religion.

It seems that you are almost perfect academically, the rest of the application is just making yourself stand out next to all the other academically perfect applicants. If you had superlative essays and recs, then I’m sure you’re in.

I think you’d probably get in RD. I don’t know about ED. I remember being surprised by many of the ED results here last year. I’d say your chances are good, if you have a good essay.

Did you submit a peer rec?

Yeah, I used ED because Dartmouth is my first choice by a long shot. I have seen a lot of the threads about the odd ED results and the inflated acceptance percentages due to athletes and legacies, but I felt that it was still worth a shot. In regards to my peer recommendation, yes I did submit one. I’ve seen some of the threads discussing peer review woes, but I feel like I have the best of both worlds in that my friend is an amazing writer, arguably the best in my school, and he also knows me extremely well and has some amazing insight and personal experiences to share.

Anyone else?

Reasonable shot. I think ED was a good strategy. They get so many qualified kids from MA and have lots of legacies there, hopefully they’ll lock you in.
