Since my SAT is really low, I was hoping my GPA would balance it. But if it doesn’t, I think I’m going to apply to CGS too!

What is your UW GPA? Have you considered re-taking the SAT or taking the ACT?

@paveyourpath my school doesn’t tell me my unweighted gpa, but I just used a gpa calculator and it said I had a 3.76 unweighted GPA! I want to retake my SAT but since I’m applying ED1, I can’t. I might take the ACT tho!

@lacollege If you apply ED1, you have until November to take the SAT and October to take the ACT.

@paveyourpath I signed up for the ACT in September, so I’m hoping to do well on it!!

@lacollege
A 1300 is solid for URM admits to schools of BU’s caliber. Try taking the ACT. Also apply early.

@lacollege That’s great! Try some of the ACT practice tests. The more familiar you are with the format, the more comfortable you will feel. You may find that the ACT is a better test for you than the SAT. Good luck!

@paveyourpath i will!! Thank you so much for your input!

BU also looks at shown interest and tracks how much you visit/attend admissions events. I would try to show as much interest as possible. I’m going to be a freshman in the fall and my GPA and ACTs were not the greatest but I think my writing and immense interest made them overlook my scores

@prepgirl2017 I visited early March, and planned to see it again in July but couldn’t because of a family emergency. Would u mind reading my supplement essay for BU?

I would for sure see if you could raise your SAT or even take the ACT. Your GPA seems good, but I would highly recommend another test or two. Also make sure your essay is killer. I’m a current BU 2021 and in addition to my grades and scores I think my essay also played a big role in my acceptance. Also have you considered maybe ED2 incase you don’t have time to take any tests before ED1? I think you’re a solid candidate but BU is getting super selective so the SAT may hold you back

@itsintheprocess do you think I’ll have a shot for CGS? I’ll be happy if i get into CGS because the curriculum is actually really interesting and I still will be getting my degree from CAS. I already wrote my supplement essay for BU and I think it’s a really strong essay. Also, I signed up for the ACT and have been practicing a lot so I’m hoping for a good score.

I think you could have a good shot for CGS, however I do think it’s good that you’re taking the ACT because your test score could cause you to miss out on CGS. I only say this because each year is getting more and more competitive (ie BU 2020 had avg. SAT of 1370, while BU 2021 had avg. SAT of 1450, which is a huge jump). BU is also becoming more selective so considering these two factors the “minimum” SAT they’ll take/ consider is going to rise since they simply can’t accept that many people any more. I do know this one girl who got into bu 2021 with an SAT of 1270, so it’s possible it’s just a tad harder. If you would like I could read your “why BU essay” and give you some pointers. When I applied I heard from a student that they weigh that essay greatly when considering if you’d be a good candidate

@itsintheprocess okay! That would be awesome! I’ll send it to you later this afternoon!

I would absolutely recommend taking the ACT!! Personally, I took the SAT once and hated the format of the test… I got a 1280, took the ACT once with light studying and got a 30!! Good luck :slight_smile:

@lacollege My D was accepted to BU ED CLASS OF 2021. She applied to BU and had never been to tour the campus or attended any admission events. Her 1st time on campus was after she was admitted. I really wouldn’t worry about the number of times you have visited campus or the number of events you have been too. Try to work on getting a good ACT score and your application essays.
