Hey, I’m considering going from ED to RD and then taking the December SAT/ACT and applying to the UCs as well as SLO; are my stats high enough to justify that?
GPA (CSU): 4.04
unweighted: 3.75
SAT I : 1940

Senior year rigor’s pretty good, AP Calc, Physics, Language and Composition, as well as a community college Political Science course and an engineering class (and art of film as an elective)
…so am I pretty likely to get in RD even if my scores don’t improve?

Yea I think you should if you want to. You’re stats are honestly high enough to guarantee you a seat in some of the high tier UCs and most of the middle tier UCs… You should go ahead and give the UCs a try and yes you will definitely be able to get in RD too :)

Really, kaplogy? Because my SAT /1600 is 1290, which I heard was weak, and I thought the incoming class gpa was 4.08 or something, which would put me below…?

Oh, trust me, beach, I know. That’s why I’m trying to weigh my chances before I resend my ED app. It’s a toss up either way, and I hate it, but it’s true…

Well that is true actually it’s difficult to say what exactly they look for…there were people who were accepted with a 3.6 & 3.7 gpas yet there were also people who were rejected with above 4.0 gpas

Actually, it’s not difficult to say what they look for. I’ll link a post that tells you exactly what they look for. It’s completely objective. There are no readers. It’s basically a numbers game of how you rank against the total group applying for your major. The reason is seems to be random is that strength of your high school schedule and the major you are apply to are very important and never discussed in the “my GPA was X and my SAT was Y and I did/didn’t get in” threads. Good luck.

More SAT points would probably help. According to this, your stats are light for engineering at SLO.

That doesn’t mean you are in or out. As the paper eyemgh linked points out, you get bonus points for specific courses, like advanced math. A 3.8/1200 applicant who took the right courses beats a 4.0/1300 who didn’t. They also consider freshmen grades

I’d leave your ED ap in place, SLO might just take you as you sit. If not, they will defer you to RD. You can submit new test scores or otherwise update your aplication when the defer you - that includes changing your major.
