I’m not exactly sure why Elon is your reach school, your stats are average if not upper average for Elon U. Elon doesn’t have a particularly low admissions rate either.
edwards020 that was a mistake from another chance me i wrote
Elon should be a low match for you
You should have no problem getting into Elon. The only caution I would give you is that showing interest is very important with Elon. They want students who want to be there. If they feel like they are just a safety school for you or that your application isn’t a serious one, you may end up getting a rejection. I’ve seen it happen. So if you apply, make sure that you do something else to show interest – visit, contact your area admissions rep etc. Good luck with your college search!
^^^^Agree with Supruwoman. Do a visit, if you have not already. A lovely campus, in a small town, but close by car to Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Raleigh. Everybody in NC drives!
Years ago Elon served mostly middle and lower income students from NC and VA. (Now it is 80% out of state.) They do not have a big endowment, so merit is hard to get. Are you able to pay? On the other hand, their sticker tuition is already much lower than similar Northern schools. We toured and it it s great school. Lots of internships and study abroad opps.
I toured this spring and loved it. I have also been in contact with my admission counselor. As far as paying goes there is no issue, cost bears no importance to me or my family, which may sounds pretentious but its true
Not pretentious at all. This is a confidential board and it is important to know what students can pay. Elon has an extra appeal to full-pay families with a lower tuition than comparable private colleges. Wake Forest has a reputation here also for favoring full-pay, although tuition is higher, and test scores are optional, if you are still interested.
You’re in Michigan? We live in NC and were at a CTCL event recently in Chapel Hill. My D was interested in Kalamazoo, also St Olaf and Lawrence. She says she’d like the snow.
I just applied ED today. I absolutely loved it when I walked on campus. I live in Malaysia and also take IB and AP classes and even though you may have better scores, if you love it then you have nothing to question.
@PetulaClark OH MY GOD I AM FROM KALAMAZOO!!! It sure snows a lot here, K(thats what people call kalamazoo college) will get cancelled several times due to weather. Great school, very small, and almost everyone studies abroad. One of the highest acceptance rates to med school as well. Not big on parties or Greek Life but you can find parties at bars and clubs as well as Greek Row on Western Michigan’s campus less than 6 blocks from K. K does have a rep for being a school for smarties mixed w druggies. Many of my friends who go there reguarly smoke pot and drop acid but it is all avoidable. K-zoo is very liberal as a school and campus. Do not know anything about St. Olaf! Contact me if you have any more questions
@lancetjay yes, we are doing it backwards. My kids looking at colleges in PA or OR or Michigan/Wisconsin, then come home to 90 degree summers in NC. Whereas you are smart to come here for our mild winters, then flee back up north in the summer.
Both my girls are looking for liberal and no Greek. How far is the city of Kalamazoo from Chicago? Detroit? Is K in a good location, ie, safe, walkable to shops and restaurants?
@PatulaClark- have your girls looked at Salve Regina in Providence?
@kempette No, we had not. Thanks for the rec. I will look it up.
@PetulaClark K is 2.5 hours from chicago midway aiport and 3 from o’hare. It is 1:45 from detroit. As with any city, Kalamazoo has its bad parts, but K tends to be much safer than Western MI. It is 7 blocks from tons or shops and restaurants! It sits on a hill overlooking the city, and is nestled in a pretty affluent enclave of the city. It is a very walkable city and close to the beach (45 mins).
@lancetjay Thanks for the info. If you go to Elon, you’ll find it’s location perfectly placed between the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Triangle and the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point Triad. And right between the beaches and the mountains. And it’s 90 minutes from our house. Makes me wish my D would go there! But it’s great to go somewhere for college.
