colle2012: Ultimately, it depends on what program you’re looking at. I’m guessing film or TV production? Note that these majors, especially film, are highly competitive at Emerson. I’ll be brutally honest; your grades aren’t fantastic, but if, and only if, you have an amazing portfolio and write exceptional essays, you probably have a shot at TV production. The film program, as far as I know, is selective both artistically and academically. You might have a slightly better chance in a less competitive major, but I can’t promise anything. Then again, Emerson admissions are often quite unpredictable…

musicisformelody: Your statistics are definitely above Emerson’s averages. Looking only at your academic profile, you appear to be a very strong candidate. However, it really depends on what you plan on majoring in. Emerson is heavily career-oriented and therefore searches for talent and a decided major right off the bat. I’m assuming that you plan on pursuing some form of performing arts based off of your extracurriculars? Ultimately, I can’t chance you just based off of your statistics (unless you’re going in a non-performance/film major- in that case, you have a really good chance regardless of your ECs and prior experience). A huge part of Emerson’s admissions process is portfolio based; just keep in mind that they can be somewhat unpredictable. For example, my friend from high school was in the top 5% of our class and received a 34 on her ACT, yet she got rejected from Emerson’s musical theatre program because of ‘talent.’ On the other hand, I know a Writing/Literature/Publishing major at Emerson who received a 20 on his ACT…

Best of luck to both of you! Emerson is a fabulous school, as long as you are serious about majoring in a performance or communication field. It’s definitely not for strongly math and science-oriented people, so if that is important to either of you, definitely reconsider idealizing Emerson.
