-Currently in a foster home

Recommendations:
Probably all 8/10 or 9/10.

Financial Aid: Due to being a Foster kid, and not living with my biological mother, I qualify for full aid.

I am also aware that my GPA, SAT, and class rank are a bit low, but I am currently working on improving my SAT. My GPA took a hit during my Freshman year because I had a hard time adjusting to a new home and a more structured environment. It’s been on a major upward trend ever since Freshman year though. I live in a small town in rural South Carolina so I haven’t really had much in regards to big EC opportunities. I REALLY love history as seen by my SAT II’s and self-studied AP’s and I hope to pursue that and Business at the following colleges. Thanks for your time!

Sorry this isn’t really relevant to your post but since you’ve self-studied and have taken AP psychology I though I should ask. I’m thinking about self-studying this course and I don’t know whether to get the actual textbook or just use Barron’s and the Princeton Review and since you’ve obviously done really well I could probably use your advice. I’m currently taking AP human geography as an actual course so I haven’t really used Barron’s or TPR on that class and I don’t know if these books will actually teach the information or just be reviews. And for your question I’m pretty sure you’ll get accepted into at least one of your selected schools as you have nice scores, many extra curriculars, and well thought out hooks

Are the subject tests projections or actualities?
I honestly don’t see you getting rejected from Emory ED, and you have a compelling story. Your app may seem a bit one-dimensional at times, but that’s most likely because you’re just posting a basic list here. But I honestly think as long as your personality comes through there’s very little chance of this going wrong. Good luck, I’m rooting for you!

UNC will be a toughie unless they’re more lenient with “the other Carolina” than other OOS. Dartmouth is a crapshoot but I wouldn’t be surprised to see you there.

Obviously you’re in at Clemson but I dunno how tough their honors is.

@TheAtlantic They’re projections. I took the practice exams timed for both and I received 800’s every time.

@darkskies I did not self-study for AP Psych. However, all I used, besides classroom instruction, were Barron’s and the video series ‘Crash Course Psychology.’ Barron’s is a review of the core stuff that will be on the test, but is thorough enough to net at least a 4. The aforementioned video series is pretty much a review series with pretty pictures and infographs that stick in your head. Study these two resources thoroughly, and I at least guarantee you a 4.

Thanks so much! I will definitely look into the video series and I’ve also managed to get a hold of a textbook from someone who’s already taken the course. I wish you the best in your admissions

Palmetto boys state class 75 here, what city were you in?

@spauldinglegend Hey! I was in the great city of Chattooga, Moultrie County!

Clemson Honors is very competitive .

I was one of the boys nation senators if that helps you figure it out, same county as yiu

@spauldinglegend well that’s really neat! So what do you think of my chances?

I think you have good chances for all your schools, especially Emory ED. But if you’re out of state, getting into Chapel Hill is not easy.

@Amphicoelias Thanks! The big ones that I’m worried about are Emory and Dartmouth. Especially Dartmouth, considering it’s an Ivy.

I mean obviously they’re all selective and it’s tough to get into any of them. But your stats are there, and ECs are strong.

Your stats are great and background information is such a great hook. You have great leadership and passion in track.

Emory ED II - Match/High Match
UNC Chapel Hill RD - High Match
Dartmouth RD - Reach (All Ivies except maybe Cornell/Penn are automatic Reaches/High Reaches)

@Thanks a lot! :smiley:

Lots of leadership!! Wow, your EC record is great. Dungeons and Dragons Club is definitely unique :))
Your personal story will help you a lot, but your academics may hurt you a tad at Dartmouth (GPA and SAT).
Emory - good shot (high match)
UNC - high match
Clemson - accepted. Honors? Good shot. Don’t know a ton about, however.
Dartmouth - mid reach (if you can retake SAT, do so. A 2200-2250 will definitely help)

Good luck this fall! I wish you the best

Your GPA is on the lower end of Darthmouth’s spectrum, ECs are really good, you should try to bump your SAT to at least a 2200.

Could you chance me back?
