This is not the thread for individual requests for chances. Please, the topic is ‘Rebecca…’'s chances.

I already did. I said it wa a bit of a reach but her gpa was solid

was*

but I apologize. You also could have chanced her though…?

Where is the thread to a chance?

I think her ACT is way too low. I don’t think she will get accepted.

Is a 28 ACT with a strong well-rounded application (leadership, SATiis, strong essays and recs, internships, and 100+ hrs of community service) enough to get into Emory?

Emory Admissions Office says 25% of Emory’s students have below their midd 50 percentile.

It all depends on your grades, challenge of courses etc. They look at everything. A 28 is not strong. Remember the 25% accepted that fall outside the ACT range probably have a strong hook - minority, sports, first generation college student.

To answer your question whether your GPA will even out your scores, it depends on the rigor of your school. If it is common to see students with your GPA, I’d say no. A 26 is far too low for Emory, but your EC’s may even that out. As long as every other part of your application is strong, you may have a chance.
Best of luck to you! Will you chance my Emory thread as well?

To rebeccanne84:
Your test scores are too low. I’d give you a 10-20% chance. It also depends on the rigor of your high school curriculum.

Rigor of classes: all Honors and AP’s with a few outside classes at community colleges.

I am valedictorian. Forgot to mention that. I don’t know if it’ll make a difference.

Also go to a top magnet school.

Similar to my stats, except Math was my 700+ on SAT. Also similar activities. I think you have a good chance, Emory heavily weighs the essays, and being a good writer is a big plus. More than enough to make up for a “bad” sat. (Range is 1950-2200, it means 25% of students did score below 1950) On your “why Emory” essay really try to express why you choice Emory. Include what makes Emory special to you, and how you plan to contribute to Emory. Emory also likes knowing students have showed interest in them, on common application there will be a section that will tell you to check all “interactions” you have had with school. (Campus visit, surfing website, talk with current student, etc) With solid essays and good recommendations I think you have a good chance.

you need to raise that ACT score. aside from that, it’s all good.
