Chance me for Emory?

Right now Emory is my dream/reach/top-choice school, so I’ll just get right to it!

Currently a HS junior

SAT (superscore): 2190 (710 CR, 680 M, 800 W)
ACT: 31 (I prefer SAT)
GPA: 3.97 (UW); weighted is about 4.5 (honors 0.5 weight, AP 1.0 weight)
Took 3 APs (freshman/sophomore), currently taking 4, planning to take 4 or 5 as a senior

EC’s: member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National English Honor Society.
Leadership: Editor-in-chief of school newspaper (writer for 3 years). Hoping to become secretary of NHS and/or president of English Honor Society!
Community service: 170 hours of tutoring & volunteering at a recreational sports association. Will have ~200 hrs by the end of junior year, planning to do something over the summer.

Intended major: no idea, but I’m thinking more in the range of humanities/liberal arts than the sciences.
State of residence: Florida
School: public
I’m white, female, middle class.

My grades/scores are good, my EC’s are pretty boring though. I’m concerned that I’m not at all compelling because I’ve never had the opportunity to go on any mission trips to Haiti, nor have I been responsible for a minor scientific breakthrough :stuck_out_tongue:

Like you said, your grades are excellent and your SATs are right in Emory’s wheelhouse. The only thing lacking is your ECs, get involved in more clubs and honor societies, a sport maybe. Make sure to get good teacher recs and have some well written essays and you will have a solid chance once you get the ECs into shape. With the ECs you have now, I would still call it a low reach but with improved ECs I would call it a High Match.

Thanks so much! I agree completely about joining more clubs. I also want to work on developing my “unique” interests. I’m really passionate about writing so I want to start getting small things published. It’s surprisingly hard to find opportunities to do so! I’ve also been thinking about starting a women-in-STEM related club with my friend. She’s more into STEM fields than I am, but I am a passionate feminist & generally knowledgeable about science/math, so I think we could make it work. Though I haven’t really worked out the details of starting such a club…
(I’m rambling. Thank you again for your reply!!)
