Suggest me some universities that are good for engineering and I can get in with my scores as well. Also would applying undecided increase my chances at any of these universities? Should I apply for Industrial or Mechanical Engineering in order to have a batter shot. I know it hardly makes a difference. But still. Thank you for your time.

P.S - School Doesn't rank. (Top 25% or so)
Let me know if you need any information to chance me which is not posted here.

I think you have a good chance at all of these colleges! Good luck!

Thank you for your feedback. Chanced you.

I think that you have a great chance at all the schools with your grades and the resume! The other stuff you listed as well you should have no problem getting into them! Being URM and first gen that is great for colleges to see especially if the college lacks diversity! Good luck and Chance me!

I know loads of people who have gotten into Texas A&M who are not nearly as qualified. I think you have a pretty good shot at most of these schools, I wouldn’t stress too much about SAT/GPA, especially considering the fact that your GPA has consistently improved. Post SAT IIs if you think they’ll make a difference, sometimes it’s nice just so a school knows you’ve made the effort.

Thank you both for your feedback.
I have also commented on your threads. Keeping everyone updated!

Indians are not URM, they are Asians. SAT M: 760 is a good score for A&M, but the 490 Critical Reading score is too low to be an academic admit at A&M. They require a minimum of 600 on both Reading and Math to be an academic admit.

I think good chance at most. Only ones that might be a bit harder would be Urbana, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Maybe VTech. The higher ranked engineering schools are always a little harder. Because engineering has really high scoring people applying.

University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (low chance of acceptance)
Virginia Tech (possible chance of acceptance)
Texas A&M University (low-possible chance of acceptance)
Ohio State University (possible chance of acceptance)
University of Wisconsin Madison (possible-high chance of acceptance)
University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) (possible-high chance of acceptance)
North Carolina State University (possible-high chance of acceptance)
University of Florida (low-possible chance of acceptance)
Purdue (low chance of acceptance)
Michigan State University (possible chance of acceptance)
Pennsylvania State University (Penn State University) (low chance of acceptance)

Thank you for your replies.

However since I am an international student, do they give little less importance to my SAT CR as English is not our first language. Also, my English in IB is pretty decent (6/7 Grade Points). Could that increase my chance of acceptance?

Johnny V - Thank you so much.

perraziman : I understand that bit for academic admit. But what about the reviewed admit (I think? Will I have a shot for that?

And another BUMP!

Out of curiosity…Did you take the TOEFL/IELTS?? cause I think most of these colleges require that from Intn’l applicants, especially if you haven’t scored well in CR on the SAT!!

As for your chances, the only thing that might hurt you is your CR 490, other than that you have a good shot at all of these colleges!!

As for your question regarding choice of major. Colleges admit based on the school(Arts, engineering, etc.) so it doesnt matter. And as far as I know, undecided doesnt make it any easier to get into these colleges, instead probably makes it a bit tougher!

You don’t require financial aid, do you? Cause if not, then just the ability to pay the full fee might get you into many of those colleges, with your stats! All the Best!!

With respect to TOEFL, I am taking it in a week or two. Already registered. I am pretty sure I will do good on those (100+). As far English is concerned, will they be having a look at my IB English grades and SAT Writing. They are above average I think. I just suck too bad on the CR section. :expressionless:
I am an international student so I will not be able to apply for Financial aid in many places.

Most colleges take a look at SAT CR/Writing and if not then TOEFL/IELTS for English Proficiency and some don’t require it if you’ve studied in an English Medium school for 4 yrs. But still, Colleges dont use the SAT only for English proficiency, they use it for many other purposes too!! So check the websites of all the colleges you are applying to!!

And I’m an indian too!! So I know, even my CR score sucks!! :)

About financial aid, I asked as it decreases your chances at universities which have need aware admissions!! If you are applying to UIUC, which has no aid, it means that you can afford a education in U.S.A. and hence I said that it increases your chances (or rather doesnt affect them)!!

My SAT score is like way bad. I studied for the December SAT and fell sick the day before.
I do have my medical reports for it, but I doubt that will give me any leverage.

I think most schools take TOEFL/IELTS. (All those I am applying to)
Some even consider SAT and my IB Grades (Thankfully)
To my surprise in some universities (Like Purdue) 490 is the grade threshold for English proficiency. Not that I will be accepted there, but still.

As far Financial Aid is concerned, that is true. International students do get that slight advantage (Atleast not disadvantage) since we cannot get financial aid, we do need to pay full tuition fees.
