Additional Information:

-Slacked off and got a 3.4 (7 AP classes) first semester so my overall GPA is probably down to a 3.9 :(

Hrmmmm… What did you write about in your essay? Anything computer science related?

You seem good to me. Why? Well, I’m Indian (born in Seattle, though), got 5s on Calc BC/APUSH… Your SAT smites mine. You’re either at my level or above it. Oh, and I got in, computer science/CoE college and all.
Gloats Hehe.

Essay good - Low Reach/Match
Essay bad - Reach

Things that may hurt you:
-Slacking off! Gasp Don’t do this until you’ve been accepted! DX
How dare you! Who cares if they’re AP classes, that just shows that you blame others for your faults!
-Ranking. I know it’s unrepresentative, but hopefully the adcoms do not only see this and not the note your counselor wrote.
-Just curious, what is this: “1/4 of a Hook?: First 2 years of high school were in India, then moved back. Got a solid 92% average in the 10th grade national examinations.” I get the first two years in India, but the 92% average? Are they really hard or something? I have no clue! Just wondering cause I should know something about my culture, no?

congrats on getting in!
I got the impression that my essays were good after having my friends comment on them and yeah my supplement was all about computer science. I can send my supplement to anyone if they have time to kill. Not to future applicants though…

Yeah the board examinations were pretty hard, especially for a whitewashed indian kid… Probably the most studying i have ever done. I think you should’ve heard of them?..

I really hope the slacking off senior year doesn’t screw me over :/

Decent chance, although your Math SAT is a bit low. Then again, they’ll probably like the fact your Reading score is so high – fairly uncommon for Engineering applicants to have a higher Reading than Math score.

Also, you’ve taken a solid number of APs – a definite plus.

thanks for the response.

btw my 3.4 GPA this semester included a C in Calc II. I’m assuming that hurts my chances since math is important… I did get A’s in AP Physics C and AP Computer Science though.

3.4 the first semester of 12th grade HS will hurt you, especially since your down from a 4.0

It’s nice that you have a high CR SAT score, but that’s a really trivial matter. The point of the matter is you’re applying to Cornell Engineering, and your Math/ Science simply is not up to par with Cornell’s standards (730 on Math SAT, 690 on Physics SAT II, C in Calculus). Oh, and you’re also an ORM.

I’m not at the average I guess. I calculated my Math SAT1 is at the 33rd percentile for Cornell COE. But you did leave out the 800 on Math II, 5 AP Calc and 5 AP Stats.

^I don’t think standardized testing will be a hindrance to your application – 730 + 790 = 1520/1600, which puts you in a good position in terms of admittance to Cornell. What it will come down to is your essays and whether they make it apparent you are a good fit for Cornell.

Does anyone know when RD decisions come out?

around March 31st

bummmmmmmp

ORM and physics sat II grade can hurt you. Fair chance.

bumping this back up…
