Chance me for Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Groton, and Milton

I am Asian-American (Korean, but was born in the U.S.) and am applying for my junior year at these schools, I speak 2.5 languages (am fluent in English and Korean, and have 3 years of Spanish)

Grades:
My GPA is a 4.0 UW and I am taking the hardest classes that my school offers to sophomores

SSAT scores:
R: 98%
M: 99%
W: 99%
Overall: 99%

ISEE scores:
VR: 7
RC: 5 (I know bad, but it conflicts so much with my SSAT scores…)
QR: 9
MA: 9

SAT scores
R: 630
M: 680
W: 680

EC:
Science Olympiad for four years (gone to nationals twice, always ranked in top twenty, and I have many regional and state medals)
Tennis (3 years - am a member of the school team and rec. league, my school is 3rd in the state)
Violin (8 years – my orchestra recently won 3rd in a national contest)
Piano (10 years)
I also have awards for both instruments.
Library Ambassador (I plan events for children that go on at public libraries),
Volunteer at the animal shelter
Junior Civitans
Spanish Honor Society

My essays are pretty good...definitely better than anything I can write on the SATs.

Recs. are good as well, (I have high 97-100 in all the classes that I asked for recs in)

I am from the deep south (Alabama) which I know is a pretty bad state academically, but I also know that schools look for some diversity between states as well.

Also I start interviewing next week, are there any suggestions on the best way to present yourself or what kind of questions they ask?

What part of Alabama are you from?

I’m from Auburn - it actually used to be a very good high school - ranked in top 100 public schools a few years back.

But I only moved here four years ago, before that I grew up in North Carolina and went to a semi-private school (you could only get in by invitation)

I’m from Madison, Alabama, and I’m applying to Junior year also!! But I’m African American. You’re stats are amazing, your SSAT national percentile is higher than mine by 2% xD, I say you have a excellent chance at any of these schools, which school is your first choice?

The problem is with first choices is that I need FA to actually go to any of these schools, so I am just hoping that I get accepted to one.

Have you had any interviews yet?

I’m applying for full FA at Hotchkiss, Andover, and Exeter also. I have done the interviews for Exeter and Hotchkiss and they went very well.

Did you do your interviews by phone? or Skype?

The Hotchkiss and Exeter Admission Officers came to Huntsville for a diversity round-table meeting. Got to interview with them while they were down here. There is no phone interview for Andover, and the closest regional interviewer is in Atlanta for you. There are phone and skype interviews for Exeter and Hotchkiss

One the the schools (Groton) said that they might not have time by Feb. 1 to interview me, but they said that the interview didn’t matter much and that they would still look at my application…do you think its true?

Maybe, I’m not familiar with Groton, but I would be skeptical of that

yeah, i think interviewing is an integral part of an application, but i know that deerfield waives the interview requirement for some people, so who knows… :S did they say that about a phone interview or an on-campus interview, dreamsare4ever?

They said it about a phone interview…the admin. said that all of the spots were filled but if they read my app and wanted to know more about me then they would make an appointment for an interview later

uh oh. so if you never get a phone call from them, they’re just not interested? yikes!

That’s a scary thought bro

hah, well that’s just one less thing to worry about on march 10th, i guess… by march 9th, if you never got a phone call from them, you already know the result ;)

I dont really know…I hope not. But my essay for Groton was one of the best i’ve ever written…I will just hope that Groton is like Deerfield and accepts without some interviews.

Wow, this is like a mini “chance me for college” thread.

I see you’re from Phillips…any thoughts if I have a chance?

Yes, unless you’re some sort of drug cartel leader I have a feeling that you will definitely get accepted. That said, I think you should take a break and chill; you’ve already done enough to get into a good school, now enjoy the last few months you have with your friends before you become a boarder.

bump…
