Chance me for Exeter, Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield?

I am currently an eight grader, applying for 9th grade in Exeter, Hotchkiss, Andover, and Deerfield for the 2011-2012 school year. (:

BACKGROUND INFO

I am asian-american. I am 13 years old. I'm hardworking and diligent. My friends would describe me as intelligent, friendly, and helpful. I have a great relationship with my teachers. I have been on school honor roll since 6th grade. I speak Chinese and English fluently, and I am kinda good at Spanish, lol. I will be applying for financial aid. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy math a lot!

GRADES

I have pretty good grades...here are my grades for the first marking period:
Social Studies (History): A
Honors Geometry (the most advanced track): A
Advanced Science: A+
Advanced English: A+
Advanced Spanish (Honors course): B+ (I'm working on this...:/)

Extracurriculars:
1. Ballet Dancing- I've been dancing for almost 9 years now and I have participated in numerous competitions. I am on pointe.
2. Flute Playing- I've played flute for 5 years. I am 1st flute in my band.
3. Math Club- I am one of the key members in math club. I have participated in numerous competitions. I am on the school team. My school team placed first in a state-wide competition. We also placed 1st in a regional competition and second in another state competition. I myself placed 2nd in the competition.
4. Writing- I have won a local award for writing.

8. Piano- I have played piano for six years, but I don't play anymore.

SSAT

I have not taken the SSAT yet, but I expect to get mid-90's.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I expect to get excellent recommendations from my teacher.
I am also going to get an extra recommendation from my private flute teacher, whom I have a close relationship with.

What are my chances? (Please be brutally honest!)

Based on you music and dance profile, I would add St. Paul’s to your list.

Thanks for the advice!
I will look into St. Paul’s to see if I want to apply there. :)

How would you say my chances are for getting into Exeter, Hotchkiss, Andover, and Deerfield?

crapshoot once again. it’s the basics for applying to those schools.

Well, thanks for the honesty.

Ok, so any tips to help make me stand out? :/

@boardingjay: I’m a parent of a prospective applicant this year, and I have to second SnapePotter. The caliber of most kids applying to the top BS are pretty amazing, IMO. And tons of great kids don’t get in. There is no magic formula that will guarantee anyone entry to a specific school. Which is why I think these “chance me” threads are kind of silly/pointless, and I’ve said as much in other posts.

That said, here are some tips:

If you haven’t had your interviews yet, brush up on each school — diving deep into their sites. Have some questions ready that underscore not only your level of interest but also what makes the school right for you.

Be able to talk/write about something for which you have a genuine passion (as long as it’s not video games or pop culture).

Be polite/respectful/modest at all times, but be willing to speak to your personal strengths (and weaknesses).

Stay in contact with your admissions officer after your interview…keep them updated on any significant events/achievements in your life.

If you have a school that is your #1, make sure they know that.

Consider submitting a video of your dancing and CD of your flute playing with your applications.

Note that being an asian-american DOES NOT make you a URM (under-represented minority) for top boarding schools.

Seriously, check out St. Paul’s…especially if ballet is important to you.

@SevenDad: Thanks for the great information!

I actually had two interviews today- Andover and Milton, and I think they went pretty well. :)

I have decided to apply to St. Paul’s. (My parents like it cuz it’s close.)

I have also spoken already to my private flute teacher about submitting a CD in, and I will work with my dance teacher for choreographing a DVD of me dancing ballet.

Once again, thanks for the great information.

@boardingjay: No prob. Best of luck. Tell your parents they should like SPS because it’s awesome, not just because it’s close! :-)

@SevenDad: Yup, I told them about how it’s great because ballet is a big part of who I am, and they seem really interested now.

Thanks for everyone’s help!

you have a good chance but like seven dad sed i used to always ask ppl to chance me but these threads r dumb nd this may seem unpolite but are you a guy or a girl?
