I think that if I would be REJECTED it would be because of my EC's. Thoughts?
Chances?
Thanks...

Can someone chance me? Thanks…

nationality is not a hook.
Expectations are always liberal when it comes to SSATs, and so are the evaluations of essays, recs, and interviews.
ECs are eh soso.
all caps do not help.
needing full FA screws you over.

I dunno, what does the rest of CC think?

Well, you already sent it in, so what’s the point of chancing? =) But if you can tell me a little more information, I’ll do my best to reassure you. It seems as though you have a chance.

1) What else went on in your interview?
2) What extracurricular talent did you “play up” the most.
3) Elaborate on the quality of the recommendations.
4) Any particular interesting personality trait you managed to convey?

I think your extracurriculars are so-so like flash9k said and your involvement in athletics is very impressive. There aren’t many awards or deep involvement though. However, I assume you showed passion for your ec’s through your interview which made it so excellent, which is good.

I agree with most of flash9k’s evaluation, but since you’ve already sent it in what is the point of being brutally honest at this point? However, I do think speaking fluent Hebrew is a hook. I think you qualify as an URM. Can you write/read Hebrew also? You supposedly nailed the essay, recommendations, and interviews, so they have a strong sense of you as a person. This is great.

I think you can expect at least a waitlist, if rejection is it probably because of FA or something else. Did you apply to any other schools?

Did you list “figured out how to start a thread on CC” as one of the accomplishments you’re particularly proud of? ;)

flash9k-
1.The fact that I speak Hebrew is a hook, and because being from Israel is unique at Exeter, it is a hook as well…
2.No, As I said, the interviewer told me to apply because I was a perfect fit to Exeter, the SSAT was easy for me, My teacher chose to show me the recs and were perfect, and my English teacher read the essays and said they were excellent.
3. Needing FA does not screw me over, because I am a U.S Citizen.

intrinsically-
1.I was able to talk about all of the EC’s that I had
2.My teachers showed me the recs, were perfect
3.I spoke about how I am a social person who loves to learn and try new things, etc…

neatoburrito-Haha

No I did not apply to other schools-Yes, I can also read and write in Hebrew

Are you getting interest from coaches in basketball or swimming?
Did you send in a tape of you playing guitar?

Nothing really stands out to me now, perhaps was there an interesting life story or experience that you talked about in your interview/essay?

Yes, there was (Essay) I am getting a Rec for Guitar. What Do You think my chances are considering this

AO told me Exeter needs people like me too. oh joy, that’s probably a parting statement they all say to make you feel good.
And english teachers typically don’t spend much time on revising out of class essays. I know that my essays aren’t that great, yet my English teacher said that they were excellent. I know of several other similar circumstances.
Needing FA does screw you over.
I’d say waitlist.

I hope to prove you wrong on march 10th :D

Well, no, because Exeter provides full financial aid to those with a 75k income.

^ that’s not really relevant to flash’s statement, since yes, <75k gives you full aid, but it still hurts your chances (needing FA, especially full FA)

unless you’re referring to something else…?

Still, What do You think my chances are?

I love your beautiful usage of capitalization.

Oh My Holy Mother of God!!! :O!!! Shut the front door!! You already had your interview!!! What did they ask you? I’m applying for Exeter and my interview is on Tuesday. :I Someone… please hellpppp!!!

Hi. Please ignore this flash person, they don’t know what they are talking about. I’m going to be honest here, NO ONE on these threads REALLY know what they are talking about, because they are not on the admissions boards of these schools. You asked me to chance you because I’m an Exeter grad, but I think I’ll say the same thing to you that I said to another applicant on these threads (I’ll just copy and paste)…

“The only thing that I can tell you is that you look like you could be a candidate, but it’s pretty much impossible for me to say. I haven’t read your essays, and everyone thinks that their essays are “good” or that their recs are “good.” But even if I could read them and could see that they were “good”, it would still be impossible for me to chance you. These threads are a little pointless since there are lots of qualified applicants but in the end I think the decision sometimes comes down to a lottery. Many people apply (though fewer now because of the economy), and they can only accept so many. But yes, I’d say you look like you’d be a candidate. Anyone who seems to be smart/passionate (clearly you love to learn since you are even posting on these threads), is a good candidate. What I’d suggest is that you REALLY make sure your essays are the best they can be. They can make all the difference in the world in making you STAND OUT. Anyone can get good test scores, but an essay makes you, you. Good luck to you! And if you are accepted, I hope you attend. I was incredibly happy at Exeter and am so grateful that I had the opportunity to go there.”

So that’s pretty much all I can say. I think the best thing to do now too would just be to try and put it out of your mind and wait. Try not to worry about financial aid and how that will affect your chances…even with the downturned economy Exeter is still committed to providing the full demonstrated need of its students, and if they want you, they will pay for you. One other thing, if you aren’t accepted, don’t spend your time trying to figure out WHY, because there could be no reason at all. (It seems that this flash person might be doing that but I can’t really say), but really, don’t waste your time doing it. There’s no way for you to ever know. But I wish you luck! : )

Thanks! Do you think Exeter would accept someone unique with medicore EC’s than someone “usual” with outstanding EC’s? Thanks again for your time

you’d be an amazing student. you should get in:)

well said. that helps me quite a lot. (mentally)
