…Fall '09?

Reach considering the deadline for applications was months ago…

Fall '10:
Probably a reach still, your GPA is quite low and you SATs don’t make up for it (and by themselves, aren’t even very high).

Reach
GPA is too low and SAT doesn’t make up for it and you’re from new jersey ;)

I have like the same stats but with a 32 ACT (which is like 2200 SAT) and I don’t even have that good of a chance.

32 is more like 2100, not 2200

sry, i meant im applying in fall 09’, my SAT are a bit low, but my M and CR (1360) are pretty good, im hoping my EC have some pull.

If you’re serious about getting into U of M you should retake the SAT in the fall and pull up your writing score. Aim for a 2100 or so, and you will be a lot more competitive. Is your GPA calculated the way U of M recalculates it?
A+ or A- or A = 4.0 (Honors or AP does not get weighted)
B+/B/B- = 3.0
etc.
And you only count core academic courses (math, science, history, lit, foreign language, computer programming)
And you ignore freshmen year.

If you recalculate your GPA this way and it is still around a 3.5, you have about a 25% because you are out of state. If your recalculated GPA turns out to be a 3.8 and you are able to get a 2100, your chances increase to about 50%-60%, so its worth retaking the SAT.

Since you are in Jersey you might want to look into Rutgers in case U of M doesn’t work out. Definitely apply early response to show how eager you are to go to Michigan and write really good essays. If your school is as competitive as you say it is your lower GPA might be overlooked if they know about the rigor of your school. Good luck, and go blue!
