FACTS.org is nice for Florida students

I think you can most likely make it into UF, especially if you could raise your ACT a point or two. FSU is second best in Florida, and you could most likely make it there, two.

strictly according to USN&WR, University of Miami is number one in florida

If you up your act to a 30 or 31, you’re definitely in at any fl school.

All the places i’ve looked have said UF is the top.

you’re more or less garunteed in all fl schools just by being in IB

other than UM, and by your stuff i’d say you can get in just take an SAT and ACT and hope for 2000+ and 30+

Should I take take and send both? or just the 30+ ACT? I’m planning to retake it (second time) in septemper

Your ACT is honestly fine for any of the Florida schools, but I’d take it again regardless. All Florida schools, due to Bright Futures, superscore even the ACT exams, so you can raise your score up a few points with that, too.

UF: Match
UM: Match
FSU: Match
UCF: Safety
USF: Safety

Basically you’re in at all the regional Florida schools for sure, but the flagships are still pretty much guaranteed as well. As for the private institution, UM, you’d probably be fine getting in there, too.

UMiami: Low Reach
UF: Match
FSU: Match
Rollins: Match
UCF: Safety
USF: Safety
FAU, FGCU: Super Safeties.

Thanks guys. I’m definitely going to stay in state and take advantage of bright futures. Do I have a chance at any good OOS schools?

My son is in the IB program at a FL high school. Just heard of a recent graduate who is at MIT. Was turned down by UF.

That said, you KNOW everyone in your school is applying to UF. Take the ACT again. Visit the schools and follow-up. They need to know you are interested. Also, UF, UCF, & FSU are very different. Locations, prestige, campus, etc.

One of the best deals OOS, is the Univ of MN/Twin Cities. If you can brave the cold, it’s an awesome school with great graduate programs, as well.

Also, try a few private schools. You MAY get close with FA.

Good Luck!

UF rejects people that are overqualified. They know that they could get into much higher schools and will probably not enroll anyways. If he got into MIT… he was probably way overqualified.

^Not necessarily true we had a local student get accepted to UF and Harvard…he will be attending UF.

Oh well I don’t know then. UF seems a little unpredictable. I guess that’s why I made this chances post. Anybody else lend any insight?

Just wondering about the weighted GPA

“UF Weighted GPA: 4.17”

How do you calculate the UF Weighted GPA?

I called admissions and asked for their scale. It’s a .5 for pre-IB/honors and 1.0 for IB/AP. Then they take out any classes/electives that are “easy A’s.” I just put all of my grades into an excel spreadsheet and calculated it.

In general, if you don’t want to be exact, he said to just take off a .2 and that’s around what it would be.
