Chance me for Fordham, College Park, Elon, Rutgers, Syracuse, and NYU CAS

I’m currently a rising senior at a reputable, relatively small private single-sex high school in Baltimore. We are not extremely good, but we do send a number of kids to good colleges such as UMiami, American University, UVA, College Park, and, from time to time, Ivies.

Unfortunately for me, we’re only allowed to start take APs junior year and we can’t take online classes until senior year. Fortunately, senior year won’t be easy.

Subjective:

ECs:

Choir for 4 years, have been a member of Schola (Varsity Choir) since freshman year, and Luminaire (alumni choir) since sophomore year. I am also co-leader of my section.

Will have been doing theater in my school for 4 years, have gotten leads or otherwise significant roles for all 4 years as well.

Have done some plays at the Shakespeare Company since junior year, will continue throughout senior year.

Member of the Mock Trial team for 4 years, have become lead attorney junior year and am hoping to move us to finals this coming year.

NHS since this year, may possibly become president senior year.

Have written and published a few short stories in literary magazines.

Co-founded and acted as co-president of my school’s writing club. We have also established a literary magazine, of which I serve as lead editor.

Teacher’s assistant for my English teacher.

Currently interning at a law firm.

Volunteering (weakest part IMO):

500 hours at a retirement home, have served as a teaching assistant at my local Ezperansa Center in which I help teach English to local immigrants, have served as an English tutor throughout this summer.

Final:

Hooks: First generation college student and first generation American (though I am white despite my parents being from Brazil). Also, I’m gay, though I heard this isn’t much of a hook. I speak perfect Portuguese too.

I will chance back. I’m honestly not particularly worried about Elon or College Park (unless I should be?), but I honestly doubt I’ll be accepted to Fordham because of my lack of significant awards or ECs, much less NYU (my super reach). Thank you for any responses!

To me, it looks like your chances are fine at all of them! Your stats are great and your ECs don’t seem weak at all. And 500 hours volunteering is most CERTAINLY not weak

I think Fordham and NYU would be lucky to have you. Your ACT is above Fordham’s 75th percentile- it looks like you would be quite a strong applicant for both.

^agree with newkidnewtrix, your gpa, class rank, and act are great. 500 hours is nothing to scoff at and first gen college is a major hook. polish your essay and you have a great shot at nyu!
