she has 2C+.
she has done 1 AP in 10th. and 4 APs in 11th and is doing 5 AP senior year.
out of 4
But youâre not adding her senior year gpa, correct?
no. only a month and half since school started
What is your schoolâs weighting for honors classes?
For example, my daughter has a 3.7 UW and a 4.07 W. That GPA includes 7 honors classes with a .5 bump and 5 IB classes with a 1.0 bump, for a difference of not quite .4 between the UW and the W.
Your spread seems very high.
Because just about every high school has a different way to calculate weighted GPA. Some colleges recompute GPA for all applicants using a uniform formula.
This explains the unusually high weighted GPA. Iâm no expert, but Iâve never seen a full point for honors classes. And, a 1.5 bump for AP with a test.
A C+ in AP w a test gets a shocking 4.17. It seems like a very generous weighting scale. Curious on others experience.
You are right. Thatâs why colleges ask school profile and school report as well I guess so students are compared with others from same schoolâŠ
Actually it is so the colleges know the context in which your kid studied in high school. Your student wonât be compared to others in the same schoolâŠbut the colleges will have a better idea of how your student compares to others at their high school.
Thanks . I dont understand the last statement. isnt it the same thing? I always thought students in same school applying to same college get compared.
You kidâs application will be based on its own merits
My understanding is that colleges DO care approximately where each applicant is ranked in relation to their entire high school class, e.g. top 1%, top 10%, top 25% etc.
What colleges do DONâT care about is where the applicants from a particular high school rank in comparison to each other. In other words itâs not like they say âOh we have 3 applicants from Graniteville High School: John, Billy and Mary. Since John was ranked highest, he is the one we are letting in.â In other words they do not put the 3 applications side by side and compare them.
