Chance me for French & Poli Sci at UGA?

I've already made a thread similar to this one, but I did not include my intended major. This time I want to see if my chances could increase for UGA if I included it. So if this new one is not considered spamming, please chance me for French & Poli Sci* at UGA!

*but mostly French; Poli Sci as a second major may change in the future. French is definite.

Female/Brazilian/GA

GPA: 3.9 (UW) / 4.1 (W)

SAT: math (420), reading (620), writing (650) (I know the math grade is a little ehh but I'm retaking the SAT this semester) = 1690

I will be taking two SAT subject tests this fall: French (w/ listening) and Literature.

AP exams: AP Lang (4), World History (3)
I will be taking exams on govt/econ, french and literature this year.

State finalist for French in Governor's Honor's Program (very prestigious summer program in GA)
Participated in exchange program with students in France

Extra: I'm fluent in English, Portuguese, French and currently self-teaching Italian.

UGA: High match (might want to take the ACT)

I will most definitely be taking the ACT this year! But I have no idea what to expect. How much different is it from the SAT?

More opinions would be helpful and much appreciated. :)

retake the sat

Sure thing  I’m guessing I should aim for at least an 1800?

Your not being in AP French or at least SL French will hurt you if you intend to major in French. The fact you’ve lived abroad will help a little.

The ACT “weighs” math less - with the SAT, your math score is either 1/3 or 1/2 of your total score. Your ACT score is a composite of 5 scores and schools often only look at the composite number, say, “27”*, not if it was 32 English 20 Math 28 Science Reasoning 30 Reading comprehension 27 Writing. It “hides” math scores well. However you do have 5 sections to prepare for.

(27 would be roughly equivalent to a 1220 CR+M on the SAT)

You should aim for a 750+ on the French exam and a 700 on the Literature exam. Taking World History SAT may give you a “safety” score in case something doesn’t pan out with the other two. For SAT2 scores schools like to see anything starting with a 7 since presumably those are your best subjects and the scores thus represent the best you can do that that level.

Do GA State suck for either French or Poli Sci?

UGA: Aim for 27+/1850+

@MYOS1634 I took Pre IB French classes last year (which are equivalent to AP) and this year I’m taking an IB French class, which should be around the same level as an AP course, yes? I’ll be taking the AP French exam too, so it should be enough considering I did all I could in my power. I discovered my passion for French in the 10th grade and from there, did my best to excel in the classes of the highest levels that were available to me.

I’ll be preparing myself for the SAT as well as the ACT (I’m a little more worried about the science section than I am about the math), I hope I do well. Thank you for explaining the difference between those two exams!

So if I get a 700+ on my SAT II tests my chances could increase considerably?

@Catria they don’t, but I’m really trying to avoid going there. It would be my last resort.

If you’re in French SL (IB) then you’re good to go as long as you raise that basic test score (SAT or ACT). SAT2 scores would only tip things in your favor thus increase your chances once the basics are covered.

Science is just reading and reasoning. It doesn’t suppose you know any specific science, just that you’ve learned how to reason “scientifically” and logically, how to read charts and graphs, etc.

For what it’s worth, I know someone who’s doing a dual Poli Sci/French major at Georgia Southern, is in the Honors College and thus got a full tuition scholarship, says 70% students are only interested in the bars near campus but therefore she gets to enjoy the profs’ undivided attention. She got to spend a month in Bordeaux for free and travelled all over France (DDay beaches for the DDAy celebrations, Paris, interviews in a high school, Carcassonne, Nice…)
I’m sure similar set ups exist at other “GA state colleges” which could be a decent safety for you as long as they’re part of that “Honors trip to France” thing.
