I know I don't have the greatest stats or the best scores, but I still like to hear some honest opinions...

3.4 uw
3.8 w
3.66 core academic class weighted GPA
Class rank 10/251
102 community service hours
22 ACT
Will have taken 6 AP and 6 honor courses by graduation.

If you compare yourself with the middle 50% GPA of the 2009 accepted freshman, your GPA is within the range of the 3.5-4.1 GPA span (although they will only consider the core academic weighting). Your test scores are a bit low, though, compared to the middle 50% ACT range of 25-29. Have you considered retaking the test?

If you haven’t done a campus visit yet, it would be a good idea to do so, and to sit in on the admission session. I was just there with my son a couple of weeks ago, and there are other factors they consider besides grades and test scores. (Although grades and scores are the most important) They weigh such things as 4 or more years of the same foreign language (1 point), math all the way through calculus (1 point), having a certain number of AP or IB classes (1 point), strength of senior year schedule (5 or more academic classes – 1 point) and a few other factors. If you have some of those, and can improve your test scores, you may be able to get admitted for summer.

It’s certainly worth a try. Good luck to you!

In the attached news article, a 20-point checklist used by FSU admissions is mentioned. Does any one know what they all are, the factors used now. I know the article is 5 years old, but the article I’d bet describes the admissions process fairly accurately as it is done presently. The admissions process is still cloaked in backroom secrecy–I’d kinda like to know better how the college admissions process works.

Other than grades and scores edging upward, and more automation being used with more applicants; I doubt things are too much different today in the FSU admission process described in the old newspaper article.

One thing that is still accurate, according to the admissions officer we talked to, is that if your grades and test scores are good enough to get you in, they don’t even look at the other stuff. Essays and ECs come into play only if they are on the fence about your admission.

Thanks for the input everyone. Hopefully UCF accepts me so that I don’t have to apply to this school! Though realistically, if UCF doesn’t accept me, chances would be that much slimmer for this school Dx

My sister has her app. into FSU for freshman class fall 2010. When I tagged along with my sister to FSU last August for tour, admission officer Michael Alberto made it very clear to go ahead and apply for fall term. He said there was no advantage in applying for summer term thinking it would be easier to be admitted. Alberto said if FSU felt an applicant was closer to borderline they would maybe admit for summer instead of fall. My sister went ahead and applied for fall so she could work the whole summer to earn money. If FSU admits her only for summer, she can make her decision then. I know a lot of people go ahead and apply for summer thinking they’ll have an easier shot getting in. Call FSU admissions if you want them to explain their policy.

Mizz, you should apply to FSU–unless you don’t want to go there. If you have no passion at all for a school–no sense applying for admission.

Different colleges have different quirky admissions practices. FSU as an example requires minimum subscores on SAT and ACT tests. On the ACT you need minimum scores: Writing 21, Math 21, Reading 22; if you don’t have these minimum subscores you are not getting in–even with a 30 ACT composite score.

Your grades and class rank are strong, and 6 APs will work to your advantage with FSU. It is not impossible that it might be easier for you to be admitted to FSU than UCF because of quirky admission guidelines Study up for the ACT test you are going to take in December–FSU will even use the Feb 6 test for their spring admission decision, that gives you the Christmas school break and a bunch of time to prepare for the test in Feb. You need to get working on the essay right away too. Good Luck! Did you get your apps into UNF and USF yet?

Honestly, I don’t want to attend FSU at all. I only want to attend UCF. If UCF doesn’t accept me, chances are that I will be attending UNF. I only made a 19 on reading -__- Didn’t read the passages, lol.

I already got my applications in for UNF and UCF. I don’t know if I should apply to USF… Not really a fan of living in tampa, but I don’t know… my heart is so set on UCF right now.

And if I do apply to FSU, I might apply fall term… I only did it for UCF because I know that they do rolling admissions, and I want a quick decision… I don’t want any waiting and deferring. Heck, I’m so desperate right now Dx

lol at Mizzxvii…I took the SAT twice and ACT once and also decided to never ever take a friggen test again. Anyway My GPA is 3.8 uw and 4.2 w rank 9/300ish ACT 21 like 7 or 8 ec and 5 AP’s + bunch of honors and I got accepted for summer (during the second deadline) after applying for fall. UF even gave me spring so if I were you I would def. try!!!

@Mizzxvii, I’m having the same exact dilemma at the moment, I’ve been taking AP & Honors classes since my freshmen year but my testing scores are not the best (SAT:1354 w/everything combined ACT:19) I’ve applied to summer term for UCF, FAU, FSU, & USF. where do I stand and how did things work out for you?

Maybe you should try the ACT again, many students( including myself) find it way easier than the SAT. Also i think you should more focus on the schools you want to get in and meeting their requirements. If FSU isn’t one of your choices then I don’t think you should be too worried. But I understand you still want to be accepted even if you truly dont want to go there. But again try the ACT. Good luck! I know you’ll get accepted somewhere just believe :)
