Chance me for full scholarships/good aid deals

I'm a rising senior in a small town in upstate NY. My dream schools are Stanford and MIT, but realistically, I'm hoping for somewhere I can get a full or almost full tuition scholarship, as I'm upper-middle class (little to no demonstrable need) but I don't want to take out many loans. I'm looking at BU, Northeastern, U of R, Syracuse, NYU, possibly UCLA or Berkeley. Any recommendations of places with good scholarship offers is appreciated.

- Regional Science Fair champs with a classmate in 9th grade
- National Merit Semifinalist, finalist (probably)

Maybe I should point out that last year, our school sent one kid to Harvard, but it was the first time that’s happened in at least 7 or 8 years. Usually, our top kids go to places like Hamilton, St. Laurence, or Alabama (like this year’s valedictorian).

With that income, I don’t see any of those places giving you a full ride. You’d have to go a lot deeper in the pool to get a full ride.

Have you considered RPI? They would likely give you merit aid, and it’s an excellent school without being too far away.

Ok, maybe not full ride, but good merit scholarships. For example, I know that Northeastern offers up to a full tuition scholarship for national merit finalists. Also, they, along with BU, U of R, and Syracuse, all do have purely merit-based full ride scholarships, but idk if my stats are good enough to get them.

OMG ur stats are AMAZING!!
But you do have a very high income bracket…
I bet you will prob get decent scholarships in the elite schools but if you want a full ride, you should try a state school

Hi OP,
didn’t I suggest USC to you a while back on another thread? If you’re applying to UCLA, then there’s no reason to not apply to USC, which is now ranked in a virtual tie with UCLA . Deadline for Merit scholarship $$$ consideration is Dec 1. You’ll receive a NMF 1/2 tuition scholarship automatically if accepted, and could be considered for one of the 200 or so full tuition scholarships. With that kind of money [$90,000-180,000] at stake, is there any reason not to apply?

I think questbridge gives out good scholarships? idk, I’m not applying for aid sorry.

Also, don’t include mathcounts as it only applies to middle schoolers and colleges don’t and won’t care.

Def stress making Sci Olympiad a class cause that sounds impressive. Good stats and courses!

Good luck applying!

Income: 150-200k= no questbridge.

@melnopark, right, I think I do, thanks. I’ll definitely look at USC. Is that 200+ full tuition scholarships per class? If so, that’s ridiculous!

“Is that 200+ full tuition scholarships per class? If so, that’s ridiculous!”
yup, with the addition of the Mork scholarships starting this year! last year there were “only” 146 full tuition and 399 1/2 tuition scholarships awarded [ including the 245 scholarships for NMF’s who matriculated there] -

here’s a list of the scholarships offered this year

http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/private/docs/1112/uscScholarships1213.pdf

JUST BE SURE you ALSO complete part 1 of your application [ which is basic stuff] BY OCT 15!!

Can someone chance me for Stanford & MIT? Ik it’s mostly a crapshoot, but am I the type of kid they’d let in?

I think Northeastern gives full tuition with NMF (not guaranteed, but I think the unofficially give it to most NMF’s)

You will not get any full-tuition or even close-to-full-tuition scholarships from either Berkeley or UCLA.

The Regents Scholarships consider financial need in the award amount, and with your family income, you will get only a small honorarium - a couple thousand dollars, at most.

I’m posting a meaningless reply so that my thread will be moved (“bumped”) to the top of the recently updated threads queue, in the hopes that forum-browsers may be more likely to notice it, and said thread may receive more replies.
