My weakness seems to be my GPA, class rank.

Your Thoughts and Comments are Very Much Appreciated

You seem very well rounded, and even though it may seem your GPA is low (others feel free to call me out on this one) you have shown that you can handle tremendous amounts of stress and manage your time well enough to maitain good grades. Your definitely in. (Yes I am a student)

You are almost exactly like me. Similar GPA’s, SAT scores (I need to take it again also) and pretty well rounded. You have taken more AP’s then me but that probably has more to do with what available at your school and vice versa so are rigors are the same.

Your GPA will be different. It will be a little bit higher than your unweighted but not nearly as high as your weighted. Probably around a 3.5 or so. Good luck getting in. I would trust people who currently go to the school to give you information.

Your Math SAT is average, your CR SAT is bottom 25%. Your GPA is bottom 10%, but with that class rank and difficulty of schedule, I’m sure you’ll get plenty of leeway with that. Top 16% is pretty average.

Overall, I say Tech is a reach. If you can bring up your CR score, you’ll stand a much better chance.

Tech has a high acceptance rate of 60%. To me, this means that if you can come up with a few very solid reasons why you should be accepted (as rebel has), you probably will get accepted. I’d say the school is a match for you.

Gatech uses a sorta harsh GPA calculation: an A =4, B=3, C=2, D=1, with no credit for +/- or honors status of classes (they do give a .5 bonus for AP though). However, if you got a lot of +'s and took a lot of honors classes, it will make your application look better.

Also, about what Burdell said: While yes, its true that you are in the bottom 10% for GPA, this doesn’t mean GAtech is a reach. It means that a significant percentage of people got in with lower and equal GPA’s than you because they, like you, had other parts of their applications that were strong and got them in.

Im just confused b/c the admissions officer that visited our school said they use the grades you report from you transcript, and if your transcript includes honor/ap points (7 points at my school) then that is the grade gt admissions uses. She also said they’d add .5 on top of that grade? Is this true?

It’s not magic - if you have a very low CR score (bottom 25th percentile), you need a very high Math SAT score and GPA. This guy is very low CR, very low GPA, and average Math. Even if you use class rank instead of GPA, he’s very low CR, average GPA, average Math. Either way, that’s a reach.

If he had a 650 CR (average Math, average CR, average class rank) or a 750 Math (high Math, low CR, average class rank), or some outstanding ECs (they’re very typical), it might be different. But right now, it’s a reach.

I am in state if that helps and an adcom that came to our school said that they put a lot of emphasis on class rigor (I took 12 aps and 12 honors). Besides that, burden you are right, my SAT scores are low, im retaking in october and my practice tests have been around 2100. Do you know if they take october SAT’s for the oct. 1 application deadline? Thanks for chancing.
