Chance Me For GaTech

Hello I’m a current G11 male student from China trying to figure out what can I do in the next few months to boost my possibility of entering GaTech. Please chance my current conditions for the school.
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA:4.0
TOEFL: 107
R 30 L 28 S 20 W 29 (from my first TOEFL taken in last June)
(I’ll try to improve my speaking to around 25 in my second TOEFL)

SAT:
1500-- EBRW 700, M 800 (last October)
1550-- EBRW 790, M 760 (this March)
(so I’ve got a 1590 under Score Choice, though I’m unsure whether GaTech requires every score to be reviewed)

SAT Subject Test:
800 in Math Level 2
800 in Physics
800 in Chemistry

AP
Physics 1(5)
Computer Science A(5) (self-studied)

Calculus BC(5) (self-studied)

Microeconomics
Macroeconomics (self-studied)
Chemistry (semi self-studied)
Physics 2
Physics C (semi self-studied)
Human Geography
Computer science Principles
English Lang
Statistics (self-studied)
------ these subjects are to be tested in this May.

  • for those I labeled as “semi self-studied”, the teacher has only discussed a small part of the material.

Other Skills:
Mastery of Solidworks, a CAD software commonly used in industry. I am considering obtaining a professional licence.
Some C++, C# and Java skills
I’m not very good at sports: though I can play badminton, I don’t think I play very well. I basically devoted all the time for sports to my beloved robotics competitions. ( so that’s why Harvey Mudd may suit me better)

For essays, I have to admit that I basically have no idea on how to write them, although I believe that my counselors should inspire me somewhat.

So please give me some ideas on my possibility of being admitted by the school- and how I may augment it. Thank you.

You have amazing extracurriculars! I think you have a good chance of getting into Georgia Institute of Technology. I would try to find someone who can write letters of recommendation and start writing the essays.

I got in this year, as a Chinese student studied in the U.S. for 3 years. I would say your profile for GT is too strong… I mean…you have a very high probability of getting in, but why not try MIT or Berkeley?

Oh thanks. I’ve already decided to apply to MIT and Berkeley but I thought it is difficult to get into both… Berkeley’ss school of engineering is highly selective and (is said to) only admit less than 10 students from mainland China each year…
MIT is impossible.

You seem almost over qualified, you have amazing ec’s! i think you have a fair chance, apply to MIT as a reach. In your essays, don’t come off as a typical asian kid (struggle for me as an asian too)- show personality outside of what you want to study, and I think you’ll do great! .

Outstanding stats. Definitely try MIT/CMU/Berkeley as well even though it’s a long shot for everyone.
