I know these threads can get annoying, but my GPA is making me nervous about college admissions. Thanks in advance!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I’m an Indian female attending a competitive public school in Maryland. And I also want to apply to Columbia Fu ED, but didn’t add that in b/c I feel my GPA is a little low to even consider it. So I’d greatly appreciate feedback on applying to Columbia ED.

I would say that you should be able to get into all of those schools. The only ones that are a bit questionable would be Georgetown and Columbia. Your SAT scores are very good along with extracurriculars. Not sure why you are worried about your GPA because that’s very good too. Good luck and I think you will get into most if not all of those mentioned colleges. Also I hear that Columbia ED is not too hard to get into, so I think there’s definitely a chance you get in.

UMD - safety
CMU - high match
NYU - match
Columbia ED - reach
Georgetown - reach (very unpredictable)

Both Columbia and Georgetown are reachable. Georgetown is becoming a reach for everyone school like Columbia.

Thanks to both of you! And I agree, Georgetown has become very competitive.

Good scores!!!
MU= Match
NYU=Match
Gtown=low reach
Columbia=reach

Please chance me? :slight_smile:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542930-chance-me-ut-engineering-non-auto-admit.html</a></p>

Thanks, I just chanced back. Anyone else willing to give some input?

NYU is more like a safety for you. No joke. Carnegie Mellon is a match I would say, and you’re pretty much set for Barnard and Wellesley from what I’ve seen in the past. Georgetown I’m not sure… you’ll definitely be a competitive applicant though!

UMD: Safety
NYU: Match
Georgetown: Reach
Columbia ED: reach
CMU: High match
Barnard: High match
Wellesley: High match

UMD - Safety
NYU - Match
Georgetown - High Match/Low Reach
CMU - High Match
Columbia ED - Low to Mid Reach; I can’t really say
Barnard & Wellesley - I don’t know enough about these schools, sorry.

I say your chances are pretty good for these schools, write some killer essays. Good luck with your college admissions journey, especially Columbia! Thanks for the chance.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the feedback!

I go to a public high school in Maryland too. Does your school have Naviance? I would suggest using Naviance to compare your stats with other students from your school who have applied to these schools to get a better idea where you stand.

I also do not suggest retaking the SAT because your scores are already competitive and improving them won’t help you get in anywhere you wouldn’t have already. Focus your energy on your college apps and schoolwork instead.

I think you definitely have a chance at Fu. I’ve always heard that Fu is less competitive than GS, but maybe that’s bad information. Unless your GPA is out of 5 or something, I’m confused about your GPA concerns.

The pool is more self selective in Fu, as that is still a reach for you. You’re a match for NYU, and being a female helps in the engineering pool for Carnegie Mellon as well. You’ll likely get into Georgetown and obviously the safety you mentioned. Good luck in ED!

Thanks again everyone!

@sungoose: Yes, my school has Naviance and I have been using it extensively (possibly more than is healthy lol). And my mom has been urging me to reconsider retaking the SAT, so I’ll definitely take your advice into account. Thanks so much!

@Sarahmt: I’ve heard the same, and I’m hoping I’ll be at an advantage as a female applicant. My GPA is out of 4 and I realize a 3.88 is nothing to be ashamed of, but I guess seeing all the 4.0s on CC is making me nervous.

@smarty99: Thanks so much! I’ll chance you right away.

I would say Columbia is a reach, but definitely a possibility. You have a better shot at G’ Town and the others are matches and safeties. Good luck!

Your GPA is fine lol. I think you have a decent chance at Columbia ED. Good luck! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1544121-chance-duke-ed.html</a></p>

Thanks! I’m not getting my hopes up too high for Columbia, as it’s an extremely selective school.
