Chance me for Georgetown University! Please!

Hello. I applied to Georgetown EA and will find out in less than a month, but I am really stressing about it. So can you guys chance me please?

I am a Senior at a Catholic Private School. I am originally from Iran, lived in the United Arab Emirates and attended 9th grade there, and then moved to the United States and started sophomore year at the high school I am currently at.
I am fluent/have studied 6 languages. I am fluent in English, Persian, and Arabic, while I have studied French(6 years), Spanish(2 years) and Latin (a year).
I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA (4.0 scale) , and a 4.5 weighted GPA.
I rank 4th in my class.

I am currently taking AP Calc, AP Biology, AP US Government, AP British Literature, and Honors Physics. I have also taken AP Chemistry and AP US History.
I scored a 1960 on my SATs (not too impressive) - with a 690 in math, 680 in writing, and a 590 in reading (for whatever it's worth, english is not my native language)
I am also taking SAT II - Math and Chemistry in December

Here is a list of my EC's
National Honor Society (11, 12)
Key Club (10, 11, 12 Secretary)
International Club (10, 11 Director, 12)
Student Government Association (Class Treasurer 12)
Health Careers Club ( Founder, and President 12)
Honor Roll (9-12)
Pro-Life (10, 11, 12)
School Magazine (9 student editor)
Public Speaking Club (9 student representative)

Outside of School:
Volunteer for Shore Health System (Hospital) - 180 of volunteer work
Volunteer for UNICEF fundraiser
Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

SO. what do you guys think? Do I stand a chance or not really? I know my SAT scores are not that impressive, so how badly do you think they will affect my application as a whole?
Thank you for your time!

I think you have as much of a chance as anybody. Having someone chance you after you’ve already submitted your app is a little pointless! Just wait it out; the decision is what it is. No one here honestly will know.

Great language capacity, nice course rigor, solid GPA, and high rank. SAT is low, so make sure to ace those SAT IIs! Your volunteer work is nice, and you have some leadership. Average/above average ECs; essays shall be really important. Depending on what school you applied to, I would say high match/low reach. Good luck :)

Because you have the international factor, that’s definitely going to up you on Gtown’s scale, they eat that up all day. As for the SAT scores, unimpressive (as you know).

*what school at Gtown are you applying to?

I’d say you have a 60% chance. your long list of languages should help you.

@crmichi

I applied to the college

I think your chances are low with that 590. The absolute bare minimum imo is 600. You have a slim chance. If your scores were higher I would say you’d have an excellent chance.

@rainderade

thank you so much for your help!! The thing is though, colleges always emphasize that SAT scores cannot break or make an application… but what you are implying is that my low CR score will in fact break my application and will be the reason for a rejection, because you say that without that low score i would have “an excellent chance.”

so you believe that the SAT score CAN break my application? or is my resume not impressive enough and that the low CR score only seals the deal?

thanks again. Your opinion is preparing me for what I’ll probably hear in less than a month! lol

Most students get deferred when they apply EA at Georgetown. Be prepared. There was a significant increase in EA appls this year at Georgetown.

Many students who don’t get in EA do get in regular cycle. However, there are students with near perfect scores and grades who get rejected in April.

Make sure you have plenty of alternative choices - there is still time to apply to other colleges.

Your resume is not strong enough to cancel out an SAT score like that. An SAT score can certainly break an application. 10 - 50 points won’t. A sub600 score can.

@charlieschm

thank you for the information! I do have alternative choices. Because I applied to 5 other schools, 3 of which are safety schools.

@raiderade

oh ok. I understand now. thank you!

Low Reach
Your SAT scores are low, but other than that you look golden. I say you have a 25% chance.
