=If you are in a large public HS in NC you know your situation for UNC-CH better than anybody here :). You probably have a pretty good idea about the others as well
=There is no AP for Calc
=Guessing this isn’t your whole list? if it isn’t, where else are you applying? are all of the OOS publics affordable?
Is this an “I’m anxious / somebody please tell me it’s all going to be all right post”? or do you have specific doubts/concerns?
Are all these schools in your budget? UNC and NC State are great in-state options for safety schools. I’m assuming you’ll apply to both.
Look at Georgia Tech’s Industrial Engineering program. It’s a combination of business and math/cs/engineering depending on your concentration. Son is a freshman business major at GT but is looking at transferring into IE.
Essays matter. Take your time and put in the effort.
You have some great in-state options with UNC and NC State. Please don’t discount them. We all liked NC State. Surprisingly S20 didn’t like UNC as well. I wouldn’t go into debt for any of these schools if UNC or NC State are affordable options.
Your stats look good, especially GPA. SAT is competitive. But why would you consider Michigan, UVA and Carnegie Mellon, when, like everyone here says, you have UNC Chapel Hill and NC State? Especially when you getting a CS degree, which will make you very employable from any decent school.
Unless you want to burn money or really want to go OOS, stick to UNC and NC State. (disclaimer: I’m a Michigan grad) You will have lots of options upon graduation and more money in your or your parents’ pockets.
Side note. We’re from PA. Neighbor’s son went to NC State for CS. Worked in Austin for awhile. He’s now working on PhD at Georgia Tech. Stay in-state and save your money for grad school would be my advice. Good luck.
lol I figured you want to leave the state, anyway female for CS will really help, trust me on that, even in the Asian demographic. In the bay area the females in tech companies (maybe 25% of the product teams) come from the schools you listed.
“By any chance are these schools that you are hoping to confirm as possible matches/safeties- and you have other places that are your reaches?”
What if gasp! these are matches for this applicant. I know that all these colleges, along with Berkeley and Stanford want to increase female enrollment in CS. Does this mean she’ll get in everywhere, no but she’s not getting rejected everywhere either. This is a chance me thread, not a judgement thread, and guess what, her chances are pretty good, imo.
